Default Filling SOHC tranny thru the VSS??

i was reading the Axle Tutorial and i planned on refilling the tranny thru the VSS. i removed what i thought was the VSS and there was a pin like object sticking up out of the hole. the VSS is on the back left of the tranny right by the passenger side axle, correct? any help would be much appreciated as i have to drive to school tomorrow

the VSS is sitting about 5-6 inches to the left of the starter (closest to the firewall). Its held by 2 10mm bolts.

you only need to remove the bolt that holds it into the tranny.

One bolt. Then pull it out..

Why are you filling it through the VSS???? There is a fill hole on the back....

...because it's actually easier and less messy to fill through the top of the tranny via the VSS hole.

Most DOHC (like OBD1 B16A and all Integra B-Series trannies) and SOHC VSS are identical. All you need to do is pull the ONE 10mm as mentioned earlier and then pull the enitre VSS out - gear and all.

Sounds like yours came apart upon trying to remove it. No big deal, just put it back in and take the whole thing out via the one 10mm bolt. You'll know you got it because that one 10mm bolt is really weird shaped - don't lose it!

this is the correct answer. this bolt is down and drivers side from the other 2 bolts. take it off, then kinda wiggle the vss and it will come out and leave you with a hole about 3/4" in diameter

Once the bolt is removed, gently pry(straight up) with a flat-head screwdriver. Sometimes the corrosion holds it in tight. Also, when filling tranny through VSS, be sure to have the ACTUAL fill whole opened on the side of the tranny, so you'll know when optimal fluid level is achieved, in other words do not over fill.
