more amps/power vs more subs/amps
ok, in the long run, should my aim be to get the most powerful amp i can get....the biggest sub(s) with the biggest wattage i can get or...
to get multiple amps and add more subs of the same size?
the later would be easy , i always say when looking for another amp/sub is 'ill need it anyway' but lately im thinking maybe its wiser to look for much more powerful stuff..
whatdyathink?

Re: more amps/power vs more subs/amps (EVOL)
more power + same cone area = high output
more power + more cone area = higher output
basically, you want as much power and cone area as possible, which may mean some big *** powewrfull amps, or a group of smaller ones and as many subs that can fit with the most cone area possible. all depends on how much money and space your willing to give up.
all this of course if your a basshead or going for SPL, quality wise, less is usually better.

Re: more amps/power vs more subs/amps (JOMO)
Depends if you have more space, or money. The powerful amp/subs route is more expensive way to get spl. More cone area is easier if you have the room.
As far as SQ goes. Just becuase you have 4 subs doesn't mean that all of them are running all the time. You can run a single or a pair if you want some SQ time.

IMO... all SPL freaks see the error in their ways , and become SQ guys later on down the road.
If it was not for us reformed freaks w7/brahmas and all the other high power sq subs would have no trunk to call home

it depends on what you want...i too was once a basshead...you can spend lots of money and stuff your trunk with as many 10's or 12's you want...i prefer running a good amp plus a real good speaker...like the others have said...if i could afford it i'd definitely get 1 JLAUDIO 12W7...and look into a good amp...that pretty much should take care of your needs...
right now im running 1 12inch MTX8000 sub...and a MTX8302..which pushes 425x1 max....it sounds okay for now...

quality wise, less is usually better.this is what i was afraid of,but, would 4 10's really sound worse than one 15? or similar comparisons?
i run a DEI 600d an 3 MTX T5000 subs. I have basshead days and non basshead days, of which the remote gain control hels bigtime.

2 15s with a good amp and wiring etc. should satisfy any psycho bass head. Car stereos in general have way too much bass as it is. But if you must, use 8 15" subs and a single 100 watt Phoenix Gold amp run at 1/2 ohm. That's good enough to be heard clearly from 1/2 mile away. It might even damage your windshield if you're lucky.

Re: more amps/power vs more subs/amps (JOMO)
i'm not a true basshead, so 10s are my choice for SQ.
but i have heard some killer designed bandpass boxes that would pin your ears backand make make your eyes water, all with either 1 or 2 10s and not as much power as you'd think.
which brings me to my point, a basshead will always prefer a bandpass box (or ported) over a sealed box. You'll get the most boom for your buck with a basic bandpass box opposed to a basic ported or sealed box.

Re: more amps/power vs more subs/amps (STSProtege)
ive heard from most peeps..that 10's are sufficient enough for smaller trucks and regular sized cars...i've heard that 12's and up are more for SUV's and bigger type trucks...
i guess it also depends on how good your 10's are..i've heard plenty of cars with just 2 10s that sound like they're 12s or 15s..it really depends on what 10s you have and whats pushin them!

Re: more amps/power vs more subs/amps (STSProtege)
I have never liked the sound of bandpass. I have always prefered sealed or low tuned ported.
In my bass head days I had a pair of 15" Kickers powered by 300 watts(150 watts each) in a sealed box. This was like 8 years ago. Power was expensive. This was enough to be heard for over a city block.
For my current system I am considering a single 15 and 1k watts.
Bandpass is very efficient if designed right though. After having the two subs for a year or so, I sold one to my friend. I designed a small bandpass box for him around 5 cubes total from memory. With 100 watts he could drown out my single sub, and probably would have drowned out two in a sealed box. I hated that box, but he loved it. He has a framed ticket from it during a hollywood cruise also
