the timing marks on my pulley wont line up no matter how much i turn the distributor? what happened?
i dont know what i did but my car doesnt have the power it should and i think i messed up my timing somehow.. i put the head CAM to TDC and the lower pulley to TDC ( the 4th timing mark to the right under the pointer) i think thats TDC. and i put the belt on the CAM (SOHC 1.5L ) and when i aim the timing gun at the pointer the timing marks are all to the right by like an inch .. they wont go under the pointer no matter how much i turn the distributor.. they just get farther.. what happened and how can i fix this? this resulted from me putting a 16V head on my CX block.. but i know it can work but what is wrong . its really frusterating me..

most likely you lined up wrong, maybe off by a notch on the belt?

Are you sure you have the timing gun on the right spark plug wire?

the thing is i tried to move the belt a notch both ways and it seems worse .. the mark lines up one way but it idles like it wants to shut off and it doesnt feed gas when i press gas right away either.. it runs better the way i have it but it isnt right i know it. and i put it on the wire to the very right .. num 1.. i dont know what to do..

couple things could be the belt is off a tooth(happens with some head swaps) or you didnt align the cam and pully TDC right. what octane gas are you running also? which way are you moving the dizzy towards, the front of car or rear?. When timing what is it reading at(advanced or retarded/degrees)?

Its most likely off by a tooth or so. My friend had the same problem after changing out his cam. The pulley wasn't lined up right and was off a tooth. The car was a notch retarded. We couldn't advance it enough to line up the mark. He fixed the belt and got it line up correctly, runs perfect now.

YOU MESSED UP.....
you said you put the 4th mark on the bottom pointer!! that is 18 degress!!!!!
so heres waht you do to fix
put cam at TDC
no line up the single mark on crank pulley with the pointer....THAT IS TDC 0 degrees
now get your timing gun and adjust timinig! to 16 degrees depending on what fuel octane
