Default Need quiet "universal" muffler, any ideas?

I'm tired of my 2.5" straight through piping and muffler (N1 canister). I still want to keep the piping, but thinking of cutting off the canister and weld on a new muffler.

Any "QUIET" mufflers out there? I really like the Apexi WS muffler look, but do they come in just the axleback or muffler part only? Or is there something similar to it? And no, I don't like the ES oval.

Thanx for any info!

You can get a good price on the Apexi WS at http://www.wholesalehyperformance.com
I'm pretty sure it also comes in muffler only...
HKS sport is pretty sweet, too...I also hear good things about Thermal...

I have heard really good things about the Apexi WS mufflers too, supposed to be pretty free flowing and still keep the noise nice and reasonable. I rember somebody saying they are what should come on cars instead of the pos mufflers that do now

check out the magnaflow..nice and quiet to wild and loud..id prefer the stainless ovals

ive got straight 2 1/2" custom madrel hook d up to an oval and its just a bit louder than stock..but if may be to loud on a 4..then ud want to hood up a 4" round to act as a resonator

Actually, they do not currently make the WS with muffler only or axleback. I have wanted the same exhaust for a while, but I was trying to find muffler only so I could go custom piping. It would be nice though, especially if they offered NA and turbo style mufflers like they do the N1.

If you want to be economical definitely go with Magnaflow...I have 2.25 piping and I just ordered the aluminized 4"x9" muffler, 18" inches long, flat finish...

http://www.bigexhaust.com -best prices

Found this on the wholesalehyperformance site. How do the Tanabe Hyper mufflers sound? Looks like it's a baffled muffler type, and not the straight through design. I don't think they carry the WS muffler section though.

Again, thanx for all the links and help!

LOL! I was in the middle of posting, so I didn't read your reply.

And a Mugen twin loop muffler? Yea, if I wanted to pay more for that muffler than I did for my whole exhaust + high flow cat!

I think I'm going with the Tanabe Hyper.

Just about any chambered muffler will be quieter than what you have now. If you don't have a resonator though, you'll still get some resonating drone at 2-3krpms.
Get a long resonator to get rid of that.
You can get a large Dynomax SuperTurbo muffler and it will be pretty quiet, not the best sounding, but it will be quiet.

Someone should request Apexi to sell the WS as a muffler only I bet they would sell a ton of them.

I'm interested in peoples thoughts on the ES oval. Is it quiet? I want a stock sounding exhaust as well. I was just going to leave the stock on until i bought a WS, whenever that will happen.

the Dynomax super turbo muffler sounds good to me
but then again I have 5 zigen Fireball catback piping to go along with it
looks stealth too, and its very very very quiet while cruising
people dont even notice the sound, but when I step on it, it gets much louder
I tucked it under my rear lip, pointed the tip down and painted it flat black
I love the sound, its almost non existant
If your like me and dont want any type of attention from cops or the wrong people
I recommend this setup

Can you find it?

i dig my ES oval. closest to stock you could get with an aftermarket muffler, aslo very affordable. i used to have an APEXi N1 canister. and i'm glad i got this to replace it.

Hmmm...so how does your sound, compared to stock or even the N1? Is there any droning at all? *With my N1, it droned the loudest @ 3k rpms, which is where I like to cruise mostly*
