Nice, Tom!
Question- isn't it bad to use an impact on the axle nut?? If one squeeze of the trigger pops it off, then cool, but I know some people let it sit there and poh poh poh- let it keep impacting the nut. I've heard this is bad for the tranny. What have you heard?? And most likely it won't do anything since most people change axles once in their life if that

Very good write up! I personally have been taking off the fork completely to ease install and removal of the axle. The only thing that I would add to this write up is that if you are not using an impact for the 32mm and using a cheater bar, you will need to put the car back on the ground w/ the center cap removed on the wheel that the axle is being replaced. That way the other tire will not spin while trying to remove the 32mm axle nut.
Everything else is dead on, I never tried the speed sensor trick

i never once thought of removing the VSS to fill the transmission.. one thing tho you never said to bend out the tab on the axle nut before you remove it. good write up tom [Modified by Kamin, 12:04 PM 1/11/2003] |

Some pics you forgot to add "/"
13. Now you're ready to pry the axle out. Take the prybar and position like so in the pic and pry. You might want to secure the spindle out of the way so it doesn't hold the axle in: 16. Here's where steps can be swapped around, but I did mine in this order. Put the lower balljoint back into the lower control arm and slide the outer splines back into the spindle - finger tighten the 32mm axle nut on so the axle doesn't pop back out while you do other work.

the VSS thing is a really good idea
i hate filling it from the sideyea for those without an impact you may wanna unstake and loosen the axle nut first before you even jack the car up. especially if you've never taken the axle nut off before, those things can be tight. |

Thanks for the additional info on the axle nut if you don't have air tools.
