Default How do you jack your cars so high up?

Hey.

I've seen some photos in this forum and I don't understand how I can't jack my car that high up. I have a 2.5ton jack that lifts up to like 16" in height. Fro the front and rear jacking pionts, the car doesn't even raise high enough to put it on stands. I have to put patio stones under the jack to get it high enough onto the stands.

From that height, I can't fit under the car and i'm small (5'7" 135lbs). I can't put 2 sets of stones under the jack otherwise the jack won't fit under the car. The only way I can get the car higher is if I jack it up onto stands, and then put more under to jack it up higher.

Obviously none of you do that. How do you get those cars up there? Oh, new jack is out of the question.

i think the jack is your problem. I have my dads OG jack and it puts it high enough to make it onto stands. I think it raises up to like 18 inches if not less. Maybe you should try getting lower jack stands??? But if you don't fit under the car, then I think you have no other choice but to get a better jack. They are not that expensive. i think it was like less than 200 for that fancy blue jack that was on GB. Forgot the brand thoug, but it looked sweet.

just drive the front wheels onto a 2x4. front of the car will be higher allowing you to put a piece of wood on the cup of the jack to go higher.

The jack is your problem. I've had a Craftsman 2.5 ton for a while that only lifts to ~14 inches. Definetely not enough room to get jack stands under the car. I just picked up a Craftsman 3 ton sport utility jack. I thinks it extends to ~21 inches. Much more room and I have no problems getting jack stands under the car anymore.

Good idea

The reason why I can't spend 200 dollars USD is because I'm a broke university student and my parents don't like spending money on anything related to cars. I'm still debating whether to get shifter bushings for like 15 bucks righ tnow.

My jack (craftsman 3 ton?) goes to about 21"... which allows me to put the front jack stands up to about 13-14 inches. Not much.... but serviceable.

Try what yoshi said. It works pretty well. I was able to get my car up about another 2-4 inches with this method.

yeah, it's your jack. I had jacks that would only lift to 14-15" and I couldn't get the rear end high enough to put the jackstands under. I tried all kinds of dangerous stuff to get the jack to lift higher. Bottom line, get a jack that lifts at least 19-20"... should run about $100-125.

Also, the jackstands have to be quite low. I use ligtweight jackstands for the front (shorter) and heavier in the rear (higher).

You gotta be creative (well I was)

I have this shitty jack that is very small. I back my car onto ramp stands, then I put the jack under the front of the car and jack it up. Then when it's as high as it goes - put the two jackstands on the sides of the car. Now since I want it higher, I look for something to put under the jack to jack it higher. I used some 35Lb weights from my bench press, and placed them under the jack being carefull looking to make sure it wouldn't roll of the weights. Just kept jacking it up higher and putting the jackstands up each time you stop.

has anyone seen the air bag jacks they have, i guess its just like the air ride suspension that people put on their trucks they are super thin and can get underneath lowered cars becase of the compressed air bag but work hella good and lift your car really quickly without having to mess with a jack.

i was just wondering if anyone had seen them because my friend just told me about them and i dont know if he was bullshittin or not.

I have a three ton SUV jack, and it's great. I bought a 2.5 ton and it didn't lift the car up enough, so I returned it. I think I paid 50 bucks for the new jack and two jack stands.

I have a 3 Ton Craftsman jack and it can lift the car high enough to install headers/cat.

it might get high enough for that, but I hope you're using jackstands!!!

yea, just cause a floorjack can lift the car that height doesn't mean it's stable, there is only 1 point on where the car is lifted and it isn't exactly centered. make sure to use jackstands when doing any kinda work that requires going underneatht the car

Those tiny 2.5 ton Craftsman or Team Mechanix jacks are definitely not going to cut it. Big jacks = good. I have a 3 ton Arcan jack I got at Costco that has a 24" lift height and is more than low enough to get under the front without trouble at stock R height at least.

This is a nice jack and it only weighs 37 pounds, so it's easy to take it to the track with you:

$199.99 from Harbor Freight.

Ah, but there is one, look directly behind the jack toward the front of the car. Z10 bars are good for a jack point

You forgot about lighting it on fire, then pushing it off the jacks...
