How weak are stock sleeves...Look inside
Here is a B18C block that came in for repair today. It had CTR pistons and a milled head. Compression was close to 13-1. It lived less than a month without tuning. Now if this can happen to an N/A block, what could a turbo have done to it??

detonation can destroy ANY block...built or not...
what i would really like to see is a built block with built sleeves destoyed by detonation...anyone have any pics of that?

Looks like the ridges are from the aluminum part of the block that holds the sleeves, not in the sleeves themselves.

know and have met plenty of people running stock sleeved boosted b series motors. plenty of life in them also.
like stated above, any block can blow or break a sleeve such as above. even a fully built, sleeved block. too many factors.

I agree that:
13:1 is do-able on 93 octane
detonation will kill a built or unbuilt motor
and I'll add that.. the odds of damage like this happening on an all motor car revving to 9500 and making say 200whp are much more likely than a turbo car revving to 8000 making 250whp.

Not me on the 609whp. That's insane. I believe the number but what you don't hear is that the guy sold the motor to his buddy and he blew it up a few months later. It's not what you hear, it's what you don't hear about.

With high compression comes more heat.
It should be nothing above 12 on comp ratio for 93 octane.
Reason: detonation will creep up after driving around for a while.
That is often skipped for a daily street car.

Re: How weak are stock sleeves...Look inside (Optiks)
WEll the thing that decribes it best is " no tuning". I have heard of an seen many boosted b18's run 20+psi and not break a sleeve. If there is not proper tuning than it doesnt matter if you have iron ductile sleeves you will break them...Why was he running 13:1 compression without any sort of tuning??

i have had great experiences with stock b18c sleeves. inline has put incredible amounts of horsepower through stock sleeves with great success. tuning is the key. to me, the picture earl put up clearly shows what results from poor tuning, not necessarily the sleeves themselves. IMO.
