92 Civic LX: stereo cuts in and out, and more

Re: 92 Civic LX: stereo cuts in and out, and more
thanks for your help mike.
i didnt cut the wires but probed the crimped metal where the wires feed into the original harness. With music playing all show (AC) 13V Except the power wires which show 26V. without music playing all the speaker wires read 0V
The only speaker wire pairs showing any resistance or continuity is the rear left, where I can hear sound when playing the radio

Re: 92 Civic LX: stereo cuts in and out, and more
ok now completly lost.
went into my trunk to look at the right rear speaker (the one that doesnt play) uncoupled the harness to the speaker, looked around a little bit, plugged it back in.
played music from head unit, and now i have no sound, the left rear speaker that i didnt even touch no longer plays.
interestingly, i checked the resistance on the wire pairs again the radio harness, and now suddenly all show 4 ohms and continuity. i played music (no sound) and checked the voltage at both terminals in both rear speakers in the trunk, all showed 13V (AC), same as from the harness
i am lost

Re: 92 Civic LX: stereo cuts in and out, and more
scratch that. theres no continuity on any of the wire pairs. but there is voltage 13V (AC) on the speaker terminals when the head unit is playing music

If so then you have bad connectons at those crimp connectors on the harness adapter. Cut and re- connect each of them making sure they are paired accordingly.. ( ie, purple and purple w/ black is one channel greens are another whites and greys another) which channels the colors represent i cant remember... but the adapter has them pinned accordingly for the cars wiring... shoule b a sticker on the head unit telling you which channel each color is.

You have 13v ac on each speaker channel at the head unit with music playing? But nothing at the speakers correct?
no voltage when no music is playing

Honestly, i think its just bad speakers.... pretty cheap to replace....

Re: 92 Civic LX: stereo cuts in and out, and more
If it's bad speakers, what are the odds all of them are done?
Most of the time you'll hear some distortion if they are done.
Check your remote wire, & make sure all the speakers have the proper connection either with solder, or heat shrink. Tape usually fails over time with change in weather.
Cheap diagnosis.
If all else fails, then I'd try the options above.

I know you really dont want to mess with those crimp connectors.... but you really should solder those connections....
