Default Replacing multi-function switch

At the risk of sounding dumb, I'm having trouble replacing the multi-function switch on my mother's 2005 Accord 4cyl. I didn't have any issues with physically getting it out/putting the new one in, but when I switch on the headlights, the high beam indicator comes up. When I pull the lever towards me (the temp/manual high beam function, i guess you would call it), the indicator goes out. When I push the lever forward, for high beams to stay on, the indicator stays lit but high beams don't come on. The reason I'm replacing it is I haven't had high beams, & have replaced fuses..although couldn't locate a high beam/low beam relay to speak of.

Is it something within the switch itself that I'm supposed to do? I noticed when I slid one of the tiny beads all the way to one side the lights came on as soon as I plugged in the molex plug, without even turning the ****. So I'm kind of puzzled..

Thanks!

Really suggest a good manual to help you test things - automanualsource dot com

Did anything lead up to this? You sure the bulbs are good?

Did you test the switch?

I'll guess the relay - under hood relay control box - is good since the "flash to pass" works.
