Got done with d16z6 vitara rebuild.and a belt squeal comes from the engine once it's a operating temp. It goes away as I acceperate but returns at idle. Used gates racing timing kit comes with timing belt and water pump I installed them but used old tent ironed which was fine. I've eliminated both belts alternator and ps but the sound does get more faint with them off. It sounds like a belt squeal. A buddy of mine says he hears it coming from the trans. I've never heard of that sound from the trans but maybe someone on here knows? I really need to solve this to get my car running.

Sounds like a pulley, not a belt. As to which one, I couldn't tell you, but did you replace the tensioner pulley for the t belt?

Nah I didn't. But a buddy of mine keeps saying it sounds like it's coming from the trans. Is this a possible noise from a trans?

That's bearing squeal. Inspect your axles - are the CV boots damaged? Did you eliminate the accessory belts by removing them, or by replacing them?

By removing them. Axles are fine they're new too since I was putting in the rebuilt engine I got quite a bit of stuff new. Radiator and fan and hoses. Where else from the trans could it be from?

Honestly sounds like metal on metal scraping. It has to be a bearing or a cam cap.

Cam cap? What would make that squeal? Also what bearings should I check? It seems to loud to be the tensioner but any ideas?

What exactly all did you replace when rebuilding this engine? Did you follow a particular guide or anything?

It's a rotating piece of metal doing what is called "chattering", as in it's only hitting the stationary piece in oscillation. That is what makes that sort of pulsing squealing sound. It will only hit at a certain RPM and only every so many revolutions.

From my experience it is caused by loose cam caps allowing the cams to flex. I don't know if it's the same on the Hondas as OHV Fords though, but that is what causes that sound in Mustangs.

I replaced main bearings, rod bearings, rods w/ Scat H beam, vitara pistons, piston rings gaskets head, cam, oil pan and valve, Thermostat, head studs, crank shaft, torqued everything to arp and honda specs. All parts were honda. Except for oil pan and piston rings and bearings they are king and npr.

How would I fix the problem? Re torque the cam shaft gear?

Did you spec the journals for bearing sizes, or did you just slap standard bearings in there? Are you seriously running Vitaras on stock length rods?

Measured everything could have sworn I said H beam.

Reason my concern on trans is cause this is a used one I bought and just put it on. But I doubt trans make this sound. Any other ideas what it could be? How could I fix this?

By this, do you mean plastiguaged?

Did you at any point remove the rocker arms from the head? Or did you leave that untouched when you changed the head studs?

If it were tranny related (manual tranny) the sound should disappear when you put in the clutch and the tranny shafts stop spinning. The exception would be the pilot bearing, it spins as long as the engine is spinning.

Yeah I did. I changed the lmas with some new one but retorqued. I does go away when I drive in gears but in neutral it makes the sound. It has a whole new clutch kit installed. And yeah I plastiguaged it like the Haynes manual states too.

You did say H beam. The rod style has absolutely nothing to do with the rod length, though. Vitara pistons on stock rods puts your compression stupidly low - have fun with shitty gas mileage, and absolutely, painfully **** power out of boost.

No I had to knotch to block for those to fit. Anyways I need help with the problem so any ideas?

Did you spec ALL of your journals, or just one? Have you done your post-warm-up, 50, and 500 mile oil changes yet? What oil are you using? Was there any debris in any of those oil changes? When you plastigauged, what did you spec your bearings to?

Spec all. Haven't ran it simply cause of this noise. Does it sound like a rod or main bearing?? If so I'll open up the oil pan and check it out.

Try using a screwdriver to help detect where the sound is coming from. To do this you put the handle part of the screwdriver up to you ear and then put the metal part on different parts of the engine. This is like a boot-leg stethascope.

My buddy did that with the auto stethoscope that's why he think it's the diff inside the trans. It was measured to stock spect I forget the number like 45mm or so with 75 bearings I think I'll have to check my notebook. But that's what friend told me it's the trans anyone had an experience like this with the trans?

I figured out it's coming from the clutch or trams related it's not the engine. I sawped out the trams and it makes it but a lot more faint now. And it gets louder as I press the clutch in. Any ideas on what it could be. The whole clutch was already replaced.
