Default 1999 Honda Accord Dies/Stalls While Driving (Ignition Switch?)

Hello. I'd really appreciate any thoughts on my issue. I'm not very knowledgeable about cars but just like to have an idea of what I'm dealing with before calling my mechanic or the dealer.

I've got a 1999 Honda Accord LX Sedan 4 Speed Automatic.

I am having an issue where while driving the car (at varying speeds) the car will just die. Also, it will happen when first starting the car. At that point all lights on the dashboard go out but I believe that radio will stay on and you don't lose air blowing from the vents or anything. The only light that remains on is the green key light signalling that the car is off but the key is still in the ignition. Looking around on the forum it seems that the signs suggest it could be the ignition switch. Do you guys generally agree with that?

I checked the VIN through Honda's website and there was a TSB for the switch but it shows that it was fixed back in 02. Is it possible that its gone bad again?

The other loop being thrown in is that I'm just now seeing this symptom again now that its getting warmer in Chicago. It was happening intermittently last year but it literally has not happened at all since it got cold. We were up in the 70's today and it was nice this week and it has happened three times.

Any advice/thoughts would be greatly appreciated.... Thanks

***I wanted to add that I have searched the forum extensively and it seems it could also be main relay, ignition control module, etc. I just wanted to toss in the heat issue and see if there could be any correlation

Yes, if the dashlights go out at the same time that points to ignition switch. You can talk to Honda and see if they can replace it under goodwill policy.

Thanks Holmes. You have any suggestions on how to approach the the dealer or do I try with Honda of America first?

Well if you talk with a dealer they typically can find a way to be paid for the warranty work. They can easily manipulate the paperwork and get paid for their warranty. Not that it's a lie considering it was supposed to have been fixed. Just need to find someone willing to help you out like Holmes said

ya, normally when it comes to tsb's and recalls they have some flexibility. I would talk to your local dealer by saying your ignition switch that was supposedly replaced under the tsb has gone bad again and just be polite and ask if they can replace it again...if not then you will need to ask them for the district office number and call them
