Distributor ( dizzy ) broke in head
hi there,
I got a serious issu ( i think ) i explain :
Today i was fixing an oil leak providing from my distributor, when a came to put it back in the head i've put in a wrong position and i forced it a lil bit. When a turn the car on the car crank but not start and fart in the exhaust. i remove then the distributor and one of the TWO TEETH of it was broken into the head.
I removed the valve cover to find it but it wasn't there.
i got a new distributor i put it with the right way in the car and the car run perfectly.
please tell where can be the lost piece of the broken tooth ?
can i run the car without any risk to blow the engine ?
thanks guys

Re: Distributor ( dizzy ) broke in head
When you have the valve cover off, look down all the oil passages. If it's not caught in any of the passages and it's not in the head, then it's in the oil pan.
There is a screen on the pickup tube that will prevent it from ever seeing the oil pump but I suppose it could restrict flow a bit. Also maybe over time it will work a hole through the screen?
Maybe you can get lucky and it will flow out the drain plug hole if you drain your oil. If not then it would most likely require dropping your oil pan.

Its not hard to take the pan off, its like 10 little bolts. I doubt you need to lift up the engine at all to pull it off. And you can get a felpro oil pan gasket for like 25$ probably

Re: Distributor ( dizzy ) broke in head
hi all,
I've did my oil change, it was about 8000k ( black oil ) i replaced it with my habitual castrol gtx 10w40
i've change my oil filter, but i didnt found the peace of metal ( distributor )
my friend told me that it's certainly blocked in the oil pan or the oil stainer and i can run the car but i have to throw it as soon as possible. What do you think about that guys ?

Re: Distributor ( dizzy ) broke in head
i dont see how it would fall in the head... but keep looking for it... there are drains on the corners check there.. if you cant find it on the head or inbetween the springs .. i would be ok running it.. (ME...dont hold me responsible)

Replace the oil pan gasket with a new one and also its best to replace the crush washer at the plug.
I saw in another post that you are from Algeria, so maybe some of the information is lost in translation.
Here is a video of oil pan removal.
