Default How to test my starter motor

I start my car with a jump start button. My setup as the way the previous owner did it, was a 20 amp start button and some 16 guage wire connecting to the starter. To start the vehicle i turn the key all the way over and push the button. It ussualy takes about 3 cranks or so and the car will turn over. One day I try to turn the car on and it cranks but the starter button was still engaging the starter motor making a horrible racket. I disconnected the battery and the negitive wire to the jump start. What I have been doing to start the car is i know just hold the botton while at the same time touching the wire to the starter button activating the starter.
This time i tried my usuall procedure and only the battery would turn on. I would try to push the start button but no click or nothing. I inspected the wire contact to the starter and it looks fine. I bought a new jumper button and hooked it up and still nothing. Battery will turn on just fine but litteraly no power to starter.
Is there any fuses I can check or a way to test power from starter or jump button?

So there's a makeshift start button in there ? I vote wire the starter the correct way no way to tell how the pervious owner hacked it in. jump the starter directly to see if it's the starter it's self.

Not sure I understood all that, batteries do not "turn on", and I am not sure what "jump start button" has a ground going to it ????

However, here is a simple circuit test and bypass jump to detrmine what the problem is...

You do realize a "jump start" is when your buddy hooks up jumper cables to your car when your battery's dead. It's called a push start button and you don't turn a battery "on" it's always "hot" with a current unless it's dead. I'm correcting you because you're coming in here and trying to tell us we're wrong when you have a ricer push start button hooked up. Some of us work on cars for a living.....

No, I have never heard of a "jump start button", an ign. switch bypass starter button, yes, and I have at least two at the shop.

What you are doing is a bypass jump, not a jump start, [Re; B_Swapped93 explanation of what a jump start is].

Also no, a batt. does not "turn on".

One more thing that is not clear, "I replaced the wires and it turned over!", What wires?
By "turned over" do you mean engine cranks, [starter motor works] as that is what it means, or are you saying the engine started, [not what turns over means]?

I am glad you got your problem solved, but as mentioned, please do not try and tell us, [that want to help] we do not know what we are talking about when we ask for you to clear up what you are asking. 94
