So I've read the many past posts and downloaded the Honda Service Bulletin 03-068, "Door Lock Cylinder Binds", but I still have some questions.

2003 CRV AWD. Good shape and still running strong at 200K! Love this car!

The Driver side door lock got so bad it would no longer accept the key and silicone lube did not help. I successfully removed the driver side door panel.

But disaster struck! I thought the outer spring on the cylinder was the retainer clip that I could not find and damaged it.

Looks like I'll be buying an entire new lock cylinder. But I don't want numerous keys to the car. Life is complicated enough.

What's my best bet. Buy the part and have Honda cut the new tumblers or take it to a locksmith?

The Honda bulletin states: "Obtain the customer key code. Refer to the Honda High Security Key Codes book that comes with the Matrix H key cutting machine.

It's unclear to me whether Honda can key the new cylinder to fit the old key? Or is a locksmith a better bet since the tumblers are labeled.

And how much of an error is damaging the exterior spring on the old part going to hurt me? Will this come with the new Door Lock Cylinder? This is the external spring that return the key position not the internal tumbler springs.

I'm confident I can put it all back together and have a much better understanding of all the parts involved. (Dang that retainer clip is hard to find, see and access!)

Any advice or wisdom on this is much appreciated. Hoping I can still save a few bucks on labor.

After I finish the driver door lock, I'll do the rear door/hatch.
