Re: Battle Monkey's EK Hatch - AutoX/DD
yeah the Koni yellows max out around 600, people have taken them well past that, but it's not ideal.
IMO the rear spring rate has a much bigger impact on ride comfort then the front springs. If you think you'll be happy with the 500 lb springs back there comfort-wise, I think you'd be better with stiffer front springs. Stepping up 100lbs, from 350 to 450 will make a big difference at the autox, but not so big a difference with road comfort.
Also playing around with tire pressures and the koni's will help smooth out the ride on the street.

Well... Im in the basement of the plant that I work at... Apparently there was a tornado sighting...
Anyway, I think the final drives are even the same but I could be wrong... If it is something that would help me in autocross then i would replace it, but if its not helping me I dont see any harm in using it. I'll have to confirm to be truly sure

They actually feel a good bit better. Mine were like jello when we swapped the trans. The engine was literally wobbling back and forth. We also did the shift linkage bushing, which made a HUGE difference. No more slop!
I'll also be getting the PIC HRB kit, which should replace a majority of the bushings still remaining in the suspension. I expect the car will feel A LOT better.

I have some interest in my WRX coilovers! If those sell today, the order will be placed today for the Koni + GC + Rear Helpers, and PIC HRB bushing kit!
Update: I sold the AST 4100s and Rear Mounts from the WRX. Order should be placed for the Civic's new setup today!

Well it's official. The ASTs are boxed up and ready to ship out tomorrow, and the Koni's are on order. I also bought a set of Swift helper springs for the rears, I think that this will be optimal for maximizing damper stroke. Especially since I am going to run the car without a rear swaybar for at least the rest of this season.

Re: Battle Monkey's EK Hatch - AutoX/DD
Well, it has been a loong day... Met with a few different wedding vendors and then went to my sister's new house and were helping them chip up about 300sqft of tile and cement board... Now fun.
Yesterday, I finally found a new bumper to fix my broken one before the plasti-dip goes on the car. I'm really relieved about having that done now. When I was at the guy's house getting the bumper, I noticed he had some spacers installed on his oem hatch wing. I thought it looked pretty good, and snapped some pictures. I think it actually could perform a little bit of straight-line function to help keep the rear tires planted on acceleration. Who knows, anyway I think I'll give it a shot. But it must look cleaner than how he has his brackets...
I'm also addicted to these avocado smoothies

Re: Battle Monkey's EK Hatch - AutoX/DD
Hey Everyone,
Being that I will be embarking on so much suspension work in the coming weeks, between the bushings and coilovers, I thought it would be a good idea to purchase all new bolts for the 16 year old car, that has seen a few Chicago winters...
I looked through the parts guides, and priced out all of the bolts in the front and rear lower suspension assemblies.
The total is $166 before shipping...
That being said, I would like to try and bring this number down to something with less sticker shock. So I am wondering, which of the bolts are pretty standard that I could get at a typical hardware store? There are a couple that look more specialized, but I have to imagine that most of these can be bought elsewhere. Am I wrong?

Re: Battle Monkey's EK Hatch - AutoX/DD
Well, not much of an update... But a small one.
I received the hex standoffs in the mail today, so I decided to give them a test fitting. Pretty subtle. I think it looks good, though.
Before...
Make sure to adjust the nozzle on the washer.

Re: Battle Monkey's EK Hatch - AutoX/DD
I just opened up my new koni + GC kit... They came preassembled from ground control, but it seems to me like the perches are mounted too low on the damper for use with OEM strut tops...
Can anyone comment on this?
Thanks,

Re: Battle Monkey's EK Hatch - AutoX/DD
Are you referring to the perch that the actual sleeve sits on? There should be multiple grooves in the shock body, I believe 3 in the front and 2 rear, which the C-clip which the coilover sleeve sits on can be snapped into. They are spaced about an inch apart. Just slide the sleeve off the shock, then shift the clip up a slot.
Also I still don't get what you mean? The shock will begin to compress before any weight is on the actual spring.

They came preassembled, so I'm trying to get the sleeve off of the damper.
I don't want the spring to be "free" at full droop. I know that the damper will compress to that height, and that it would be difficult for the spring itself to become loose. But I would prefer that the spring was fully seated to the top mount before any weight was loaded onto the damper

Re: Battle Monkey's EK Hatch - AutoX/DD
That's not how they are designed & I have never had any issues with the springs being free at full droop.
The sleeve should slide on/off the damper easily when new but I've never had a set come pre-assembled before. Even when they are used and the weight of the car has pressed the sleeve down onto the C-clip significantly it just takes a tap with a hammer/punch to knock it free.
Unless you have some strange yellows without the multiple slots, your C-clip is on the lowest setting and would likely put the front end of the car lower then you want it to be, even with the coil over adjusted to the top of the sleeve. I'd try the middle groove and install them. It isn't hard at all to slide the sleeve up the shock body and move the C-clip to the top groove with them on the car if that still ends up being too low.

Re: Battle Monkey's EK Hatch - AutoX/DD
yea i literally can't pull the sleeves off of the damper...
I mean, if that's how they are, that's how they are, but i won't prefer to limit that gap and should be able to put them on the upper groove

Re: Battle Monkey's EK Hatch - AutoX/DD
Hit it with a punch/hammer? Hit it at the gold part (the lower spring perch, the part that you turn to adjust height).
Don't be too scared of hitting them hard, think about the stress on those threads via normal use.

Re: Battle Monkey's EK Hatch - AutoX/DD
yep, that's what I did. I was finally able to get them off. There was electrical tape wrapped around the shaft preventing the sleeve from sliding off.
Thanks for the help!

Re: Battle Monkey's EK Hatch - AutoX/DD
Yeah, I do the electrical tape trick too. One layer is usually perfect.
You may end up wanting to trim those bumpstops, but they don't look too big.
What spring rates?

Re: Battle Monkey's EK Hatch - AutoX/DD
Well now that I've had some free time to take the pictures and unbox everything, I can make a decent post.
Received this package on Monday
400lb Fronts
500lb Rears
Some lighting
Front grille
I test fitted this onto my spare bumper and fitment isn't so hot on the bottom... So I need to figure out a solution for it.
