Default 1997 civic vti hatch tranny conversion

Greetings,

I imported this car from japan for my son. Its right hand drive and currently has a multimatic MMT or cvt with the economy-drive-sport selector switch on the console . I have a line on a psj-003 ecu that is apparently what i need for a manual conversion and before I buy it I wanted to make sure I want go through with this.

Is there a "best" manual transmission for performance/economy using the d15b as it was known in japan or as the d15z7 in other parts of the world that the vti was sold. Can i get a manual tranny to work with out a huge amount of grief.

The current cvt in there now slips slightly at at start up when engaging into drive meaning it does not respond immediately when the gas is applied from a standing start. It does improve though once the car warms up.It seems to respond well in all other functions. I changed the oil but the same issue remains.

I have learned these trannys are problematic and that is disappointing, the prospects of a used one seems to harbor the same results i suspect. I'm hoping you fellas can help us out.

Thanks,
Swing
