Icon2 K&N or OEM air Filter ?

I've been contemplating replacing the K&N filter from my airbox and going to stock OEM paper filter. Reason for this is because the OEM filter will keep my oil cleaner for longer compared to the K&N which allows more air (and dirt) into the oil. I also think I may get slightly better fuel mileage as well because less air (and less fuel) will be given.
The 1 good thing about the K&N is that I could reuse it by washing it once a year.

Thoughts.

I don't think there is a big difference for the oil. They both work well, the K&N just flows more. The bulk of the intake air is exploded and shot out the exhaust. They wouldn't be able to meet oem specs and warranty if it was compromising the engine.

It's a cheap part. Replace and report.

Problem is I'm 'cheaper' than buying a 'cheap part'.

I'd save the coin and rock the K&N. The mpg decrease you will see from that has to be minimal, and as far as air filtration goes, I have no doubt a K&N filter is perfectly fine

I ran a K&N panel filter on my 91 CRX Si, from 99k miles in 1993 until 2002 when it had 228k miles when i sold the car. BTW, when i boght the car in 93, it already had the K&N, so, it had been in place from before the 99k mark.
I NEVER oil washed it, I just took filter out, tapped/knocked out the dirt on a hard surface, and reinstalled, about 3 times a year.
Car never used a drop of oil, changed oil every 2500-3000 miles. Never had an engine issue. Logged 39mpg avg for the entire ownership.
Last time i checked that car on carfax, it had showed an emissions inspection at 295k miles, undoubtedly that engine had stlll never been touched on the internals..

I run the K&N in all my Hondas now, and will never oil one.

K&N filters will filter BETTER than any paper filter, and flow more air while doing it.

Is that because cotton gauze fabric filters better than paper ?

It's not just the material, It's also how the material is made into a filter. And also the oil. The oil is ESSENTIAL in a K&N filter. Without the oil, the filter would be worse than a paper filter. But, you also dont want too much oil. It's not a difficult thing to oil them, and after the first time or two you get the hang of how much is enough.

Looks like new oem filters are still about $14. Pulling out your K&N will cost you money and be a step backwards IMO. I have run both ways and didn't see any differences in the dirty oil.
