89 ef obd1 converted b18a1 ~trouble starting~
When we first swapped it we started it and the water pump was leaking the only codes we were getting at that time was 41 ( o2 sensor ) which we havent wired up yet.
Then we changed the water pump and timing belt and the car started up fine again drove it around but it felt like it was a tooth off no low end power.
Took off the timing belt again and we were off a tooth now it is set correctly on timing and the car will not start. Getting spark ( used the tool that goes on the spark plug wire to check ) and fuel, compression is 180 across the board. What could it possibly be? We were getting a check engine light for intake air tempature sensor. Went and got a new sensor and now the only code is 41. We were thinking maybe the main relay changed that and it wasnt it either. The car wanted to start but it seem hesitant and it wouldnt.
Any ideas of what to check for? I checked all the fuses all the wiring for the obd1 conversion and checked for power to all the wires everything is good. Im really mind boggled by this one.

I've played the "it started fine before" game a few times over the years. Not fun.
Check that the ground on the thermostat housing is clean and tight. You'll only forget this once because you'll be scratching your head for hours. ENSURE you are using ALL of the oem grounds.
hopefully you got your conversion harness from rywire or some other reputable outfit. because if you cheaped out and purchased no name ebay junk....... good luck buddy. I mentioning this because intake temp sensor failures are rare. The last two cars I worked on used crappy jumpers and I regret not charging by the hour. What a nightmare.
Never hurts to throw on a known good distributor. They like to fry at the worst times, like right after a timing belt change.
And finally, Hate to say it, but don't rule out mechanical damage. Only you know how the car ran when it was 'off by a tooth'. Hopefully you did a compression test by the book and aren't fooling yourself.

battery is good, we tried using carb cleaner to start to the car ( WOT spray a little and crank and it didnt start ) we checked for spark even changed the spark plugs again. Were getting good spark and fuel shouldnt be a problem because it should have started with carb cleaner.
Thermostat ground is good but were not using oem grounds. there all getting good voltage though thermostat tranny starter valve cover everything. And the motor is fine did a compression test before and after same numbers. We did it by the book. My conversion harness is obd0 to obd1 from boomslang brand new bought from there website. Distributor is the only thing I have yet to rule out but its throwing some good spark used the spark checking tool for that one and it made some good spark.

If my motor was flooded with gas because I did try starting it quite a few times, how long would I have to wait to get it started again?
