List of real Vtec K20 ? How to know ?
Hi
I found that my K20 engine I'm going to swap in to my 95 tegra, wasn't a real Vtec engine, so I'm going to replace it with one that has real Vtec.
I need a way to tell if that engine is real Vtec or not, wihtout opening the head, the owner won't allow me to , even if he did, it would be a hassle to check over 40 K engine.
So I need list of all Vtec engine code ( PND, RAA , PNC...) if those can help ?
And what about the K24 ? Are they real Vtec ? and any good for boost?
of course engine is going to be mod , sleeved, pistons, rods...
Thanks.
To make it more clear, I'm talking about the 3 lobe cams
Check attached pic.
PS: all engines are there , are K20a or K24, no K20a2.

What do you mean it's NOT a real VTEC engine? They're all VTEC. Just not the VTEC you were expecting. Probably because you didn't do your research prior and just jumped on the first and cheapest K-series you could find. Now you know why the K20A3 is looked down upon.
The K series engines are all equipped with DOHC valvetrains with Honda's i-VTEC variable valve timing control.
Honda made this engine a big improvement over its older 4-cylinder engines by including friction-reducing technologies to reduce parasitic loss.
The K-series uses a DOHC valvetrain, which utilizes roller rockers to reduce friction. The VTEC system on engines like the K20A3 is only on the intake cam, and at low RPM when not engaged, allows the engine to function as a 12-valve engine, opening only one intake valve so that the air swirls for better combustion. This VTEC system was designed with fuel economy in mind. In engines like the K20A2 found in the RSX Type-S, The VTEC system always allows the motor to run as a 16 valve engine, and when VTEC engages, its on both the intake and exhaust rockers, and opens all 4 valves even more at high RPM
The K-series motors all use DI, or distributorless ignition. It uses a coil on plug system, in which each spark plug has its own coil atop it. This allows the ECU to send the spark exactly when it wants it, and removes the need for spark plug wires.

Before you flaming me , idk why the hates.
I wanted a 5spd tranny, I found one , but it was being sold with an engine.
The owner couldn't confirm which type of K20a it was (I thought it would b k20a3) so I took my chances and bought it anyway.
If it was 3 lobe, or not. Now I'm going to buy a new one.
And don't talk about money, shipping (only) that engine with tranny from Japan cost me 700$. ( I was expecting 300$... well couldn't argue with the customs)
Anyway, I went to buy another engine, the owner was kind and opend for me several K20 engines cover, but all were 2 lobe, I found one intersting it looked like type r engine but with silver head, he said it was for Accord, it was 2 lobe.
Tomorrow, another dealer, I used to deal with him alot, said he will bring all K20s he has, and check them out, hopefully we will find something good.
I'm ok as long as I don't end with K20a3. But it seems hard to confirm not.
Damn those JDMs
Thanks for the info.

Man, that is a tough situation.
I have no idea how I would: ask for the engine code stamped into the block I was about to buy THEN look that engine code up on the interweb.
No idea how I would do that.
Guess you just gotta roll the dice when you're buying engines.

Ok you two pros , tell me , if RBA have 3 lope or 2 ? give me page has full spec for it.
also , PNA , PND , RAA ... If you can provide me page has all engines code on it. Or at least for those codes.
You would be doing me a great favor , if you can't then just beat it.
Weird people, when they can't help , they start flaming. No life ?
Also all JDMs K20 use K20a for all their engines. Must be new info to you.

Oh you're an expert now huh? Tell me, how come you didn't do this research BEFORE you went and bought two engines?
At least for the Type R all you need do is stick a bore scope down through the spark plug hole & you should be able to see "PRC" or "RRC" on the piston.
Cylinder head should be stamped PRB or RSP.
Found that info on the net in just ten minutes of searching. Maybe start looking for other cylinder head stamping and piston codes for the other engines. Kinda like with every OTHER Honda engine ever made.

Either you can't read, or you are slow.
I said , I bought the tranny , regardless of what engine I will get, K20a good, K20a3 I will replace. Since I couldn't find the tranny I wanted at all.
So you saying , insted I could just open the top and save the troubles.
They have red top too, so no need to do that.
Didn't provide me page of engine codes I wrote above , just prove my point.
I know RPC PRC PRB RBB are the 3 lobe cams. What about other models and codes ?
Can you confirm that those are the only models for 3 lobe ?
You think if I found the engine with those codes I will be posting here ?
I found so many engines with different codes, so I'm trying to figure which has 3 lobe, without the trouble of checking each engine throughly. Or at least not ending with K20a3.
I'm no expert, I said on my week old thread at same forum, that I'm new to k series.
And that's why I'm asking here , so to be guided to the right engine.
You false replys are going no where.
If you not helping , then why are you here ?
I appreciat the little info you are giving, but you not helping at all.
