Oil weght
I know this is controversial, but asking anyway.
I live in a very hot climate (winter is @45 and summer is @110-120) so I use 10W-40 on my gsr. I drive it easy till the temp is @ normal. Not over 3K, granny shift. I see a lot of people swear by 5W. My theory is 5W is better economy wise and also in cooler climate, but I don't trust it to be thick enough in this climate. Any constructive thoughts are welcome.
EDIT- I know weight is spelled wrong.

Re: Oil weght
The first number 5 or 10 doesn't mean much. It only represents the thickness of the oil on cold start, 10 being slightly thicker(also known as winter temp). Once the car reaches operating temp that number no longer matters.
20, 30, 40, 50 weight is the important number. 20 being thinner, 50 being thicker.(at operating temp)
But anyways, 10 is fine since you live in a hot climate, the second number I hear a lot of opinions. If the car burns oil, a heavier weight might help a little with blow by.

10w means nothing when you're not in a freezing climate. the W stands for WINTER
so basically, you can run straight 40 weight and it'll be the same as 10w-40
The only thing that matters in hot climates is the 2nd number. 40 weight in that sort of temp I think is wise. I run 40 weight in my integra, I'm in arizona so we get pretty hot out where.
