Icon2 Since I have a VIN from Japan, is it technically an EF instead of an ED?

Alright, so I went about researching the origins of my VIN and found out that my 89 Civic Si was actually made and assembled in Japan, and then brought over and sold here. Are all 88-91 generation civics built in Japan, and then shipped over here?

The first characters of my VIN are JHMED. The JH means it was made in Japan, and not in the US. Because of this, does that mean my car could be called a legit EF instead of an ED since it was made in Japan, but sold here?

Does anyone else have a VIN that starts with a number or something to say it wasn't made in Japan?

might be built over there but sadly its just another ED like all the other ones running around in the states. says so right there in ur 4th and 5th digit. just an american made for, japan built car is all.

but doesnt stop anyone from calling it an EF. call mine that all the time lol

The EF,ED,EE, ect all refer to what is in your actual VIN number

As Spun said JHMGED just means japan built North American spec car.

This may help

Top: ED chasssis VIN tag like yours (this one from a Canadian 88 CRX Si, Made in Japan)
Bottom: EF8 made in Japan and imported from Japan to North America
