Default can you tell me if my ECU is socketed or chipped??

its a P30 automatic that has been converted to run on my 5 speed for the b16a that is in my crx. I'm going to purchase Hondata s300 and have been reading the instructions of how to install it, and its different if your ECU is alrdy chipped. so just want to know what I'm going to have to do once I purchase the s300. thank you very much for your information.

That ecu has been socketed but there is no small 7hc chip installed which makes me thing some one may have botched the socket install & left the ecu stock.

You may want to look at the bottom of the ecu over and see if J1 is jumped & what the solder joints look like at the socket.

You maybe better off selling it to some one that needs a stock p30 and buying an s300 system pre-installed into an obd1 ecu.

ok I thought it was strange when i saw that spot open like a chip should be there. thats not normal right? I mean this was a automatic ECU originally that was modified to work on 5 speed, so does that have something to do with it?
and I will check it out later today around 9pm and get back with an update

I'd say that someone got in over their head and wasn't comfortable doing surface solder components. Just looks like they gave up when they got to the surface solder component.

If you can find someone who can surface solder the 7HC373 chip in you could probably get it working.

isnt it possible that someone just removed the chip that was in the socket?
does this " 7hc chip " you speak of just snap into the socket? or does it have to be soldered?
b/c the car was being setup for boost. (or maybe even already had boost at one time) b/c they installed a oil line off motor for the turbo already and air/fuel and boost guages on the driver pillar. plus the car already has a fuel pressure guage on the fuel rail, which seems a little much for a stock internal motor.

what I'm thinking is.... the car had a turbo on it at one time, they chipped the ECU for the turbo. then when they decided to sell it. they took the turbo off, and removed the chip from the ECU. sound possible?

It would have to be removed by de-soldering it. Sure it could be possible. However, it would be much easier just to remove the jumper rather than removing an otherwise permanent component. Besides no one that knows how the ECU works would remove that just to disable the ECU.

If the engine was actually running with boost. They probably had another ECU and decided to keep it and threw this one in when they sold the car. That makes much more sense to me!

so finally got a chance to look at the inside of the ECU and J1 is NOT jumped on the bottom of the ECU, it looks like it was at one point, definetly solder there. but the two parts are not connected.
the solder points on the socket look good though.

so what does this tell us?

also after inspection and reading forums about how to chip it. I notice that
c49, c50 and RP 17 have all had items removed from them. like they can something soldered there at one point
and RP 18 has been jumped

Tells you some one converted the ecu to 5 speed.
Some one tried to chip the ecu but didn't finish for some reason.

So if the socket is good. Then I can rejump j1 and put resistors back at c49 and c50 get a chip and have it tuned correct?
@mtber you sell chips with base maps correct? A map that is slightly tuned for my car?
