97 Civic - system voltage goes crazy...jumps from 12.3V to 15.4V
Hello everyone..just bought a 97 civic ex about a month ago for 1600 bucks. I knew for the price I would inherit some issues but thus one boggles me. First off from what I can tell someone had swapped a d16y7 block but retained the y8 head here are some pics:
Now for the issue....the car runs smooth no hiccups. But after driving for a while the voltage starts to go crazy..it jumps from 12.3 to 15.4 and everywhere in between and when I step on the brakes all power flickers radio turns off(total power drain but only for a second). I changed the alternator but no fix. Found out about the fuse 15 TSB checked the fuse. It was not blown. Checked wires no damage..to be extra sure ill pull the intake manifold off to get a really good look at it. So if someone could give me some info on the motor and the issue i would be very thankful. (Btw don't mind the cheap exhaust and intake its way better than the crap that was on there)

Nothing comes on while driving I'm pretty sure the light
Works... It comes on in the ACC position before I start it up

Start by cleaning the tightening the battery connectors, the battery ground wire attached to the chassis, and the large white alternator attached to the hood fuse box.

Will do that... Now can you help me identify my motor? I know it's a y7 block is the rest from the original y8?

Look for the head code located above the exhaust ports of cylinders #2 and #3 (or near this location).
You'll find this link in the FAQs sticky:

While poking around I solved my voltage problem. The (+) terminal had one exposed corner and was hitting the firewall. I covered it completely up and success problem solved
