Default DPFI to MPFI ECU pins

These things are annoying. Some tutorials say to cut the wires

I'm not sure I want to cut when I know others have gotten the pins themselves out.

I swear I fiddled around with a paper clip in one of these for like 2 hours.

Anybody?

its very hard to do if youve never de-pinned anything before i can kinda coach you through it tho. it would be wise to snag a junk plug from a junkyard just to learn on

its also all about tool preparation. a paper clip will work but even that should be modified a little

I just rip the small pins out of the black plugs and bend the lock tab back.
Big white plug is easy with a micro screwdriver.

it is very possible to rip the wire off the pin and are way more likely to damage the wiring by just pulling it out. not very reliable. re-using old pins the right way isnt even 100% but its better than going ape **** on them

this is a good tutorial for a basic understanding of how this works but there are some key things to know. i use the same screw driver set this dude does. i used the smallest screw drive and took it to the grinder and made the tip smaller. (ground only the top side of the screwdriver to make a triangle and made the width just a tiny bit smaller.

Tips.
1. BE GENTLE! YOU CAN DAMAGE THE PLUG to the point the wire will no longer hold its self in.
2. try and push the wire towards the plug while de-pinning.
3. once you think you have unlocked the clip pull the wire out while the tool is still in place.
4. always angle the screw drive towards the wire youd like to remove
5. there is usually no need to try and pry on anything.
6. always make sure any secondary clips have been removed from plug before trying to depin. (like the two on the back of the smaller ecu plugs)

GOOD LUCK! its like riding a bike after you figure your style out hope this helps

Thanks guys. Got that thing out after like 2 hours. Ended up damaging the orange one, but not enough to matter. It is hard to be gentle when everyones saying just ram it in there ;D

I just did this last night. You really do have to shove it in there pretty hard, but it has to be a controled shove if that makes sense. Once you figure it out, it only takes about 10 seconds to do all the others.

Follow-up question, wasn't sure if I should start a new threat or not.

I'm not actually doing only DPFI to MPFI, I'm swapping out a D15b7 for a D16a6.

The conversion guides for DPFI to MPFI are for just that, not a whole engine swap.

My question is, do I modify my D15b2 wiring harness and use that? Or am I using the harness that came with the D16a6 and modifying that?

Just search bro.

But if your dropping in a d16a6 and your still dpfi.
Yes its possible its a straight swap but you have to use your d15b2 manifold and dizzy.

Well I want to have MPFI for the d16a6, I have the ECU and the wiring harness for either. I'm just wondering do I keep my d15 harness and add plugs from the d16 one, or vice versa?

You keep your DPFI harness and modify it to support the MPFI.
The reason you can't just use either is because of the cabin harness/firewall plugs.
They are configured differently so you can not just change out engine harnesses.

I like this write-up the best because he can't spell sensor.

Thanks, I finally get it now. Swapping in a d16a6 is really no different electrically than just doing a plain DPFI to MPFI swap.

How the hell do I lower this engine in?!

I've been at it for 2 hours. I'm getting stuck on all the mounts lining up. Does anyone have a video link or something?

I just used one of my GF's bobby pins for her hair. LOL!! I just straigtened it out and used a file to file one end to a point then my mpfi was done in less than 15 min
