Default **Tuner Eddy's D2B EM1 build** (Go-autoworks, 6262 content)

So a few of you guys may have seen the previous thread on this car:

https://honda-tech.com/forums/drag-racing-36/go-autoworks-2011-d2b-em1-build-2923179/

If you haven't, please read that full thread before you ask why this EM1 chassis has a single cam for a power plant. To give a full background, I've owned a lot of Honda's over the years, in fact, I sold my s2000 just to buy this car and pursue one of my truest passions, drag racing.

I bought this car off of Greg at Go-Autoworks in August of 2011. The car has a laundry list of parts and they were all high dollar and well put together. Greg gave me a great deal on the car and has continued to be a great help with advice throughout my ownership of the car. Please check out http://www.go-autoworks.com/ (as if I need to post a link, you guys know Greg).

I finished the car up after picking it up and took it to the dyno. The trip to the dyno netted the following three videos:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pt4f...9&feature=plcp

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPl74...cEObrNJnwtrfNw

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BdQGwF8bC4

I had issues with the fuel pump wiring and a few other things on those three pulls, so after a long day at the dyno, we called it quits. I then returned the following weekend after fixing everything on the car and managed the following two pulls:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxMw8...6&feature=plcp

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XOcnL...5&feature=plcp

On the second pull, the motor spun a rod bearing and began to knock. With a lot of frustration, and quickly learning that part of owning these higher horsepower cars were a lot of heartaches, I took the car back to my friends shop. After the car sat at the shop for 8 months without being touched, I finally went and picked up all of my **** and the car. After the car spun a rod bearing, I took the car to my buddy;s shop and paid them to rebuild the bottom end. I've known this guy for a long time, so I paid him up front to rebuild the motor for me. After patiently waiting from October 1st to June 1st, I rented a trailer from uhaul, borrowed a friends truck and brought the shell home (I was also given spare parts that I have been able to sell to help make back my money, thank God!). I cleaned up the 8 months of filth off of it and decided to assemble the motor myself with the help of a friend (Honda-tech user: RacerXI).

Rodeny and I have worked on this car tirelessly for the passed two day's and FINALLY, after 10 full months, I got to this point:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlezB...1&feature=plcp

The damn thing fired right up. I'll admit that my heart was in my stomach when I first put the key in the ignition. The car still has a few minor tweaks, but it is now ready to hit the track/dyno for a tune on boost higher than 11psi. My goal for this car is tens. I've always wanted a ten second civic and I'm hoping that everything holds together long enough to do so, haha!

Secondly, I'd like to thank my friend Rodney for giving up two full days of his time to help a friend out and for having th patience to deal with all of my questions.

I look forward to getting this car on the track and learning how to drive it.

How much was your Back Door Intercooler? have a similar setup but not sleeved. also is your 6262 V-Band or 4 bolt? i currently have a 4 bolt 6262 but got ahold of a full race true 3" V-Band down pipe. so im going to convert my housing to V-band but heard precison is not true 3" its 2.5. Bummer...

sIk setup, very few of us believers out there...

Haha, I plan on it man. You've got some impressive times and numbers for stock sleeves! I don't have a HP or PSI goal in mind, I'd just like the car to run 10.9XX or faster and I will be content with that (for the moment, haha).

Thanks man, I was hoping to have more seat time by now, but things happen.

The intercooler came with the car, so call or pm Autoworks for pricing. And I'm pretty excited about the setup, but I'd like to stress that it was Greg @ Autoworks that worked with SpeedFactory to create the setup, not me.

Thanks man. I haven't made a single pass on the car since owning it, so I'm pretty excited about getting it going.

The car is firing right up, I just have a few small bugs to work out:

--One bolt for the starter
--Figure out how to mount the throttle cable onto the STR intake mani. I know that it mounts underneath, but I think the mounting bracket for it got lost while moving the car.
--One fitting for the intake mani to hook up the boost gauge (it is on it's way, should be here tomorrow)
--Velocity stack on the turbo (will be here tomorrow)
--Solder one wire
--Check every bolt on the car
--Car needs an alignment

I'm hoping to finish everything on the above list and POSSIBLY take it to the track this weekend or next.

Got the car to the local 1/8th mile tonight! I'm only running 11psi currently, so I was hoping for an 8.50. After some seat time, I finally got the hang of this thing!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Le631...1&feature=plcp

This track isn't the best, but I managed an 8.04 @ 89mph with a 1.8 60 ft. I must say that I cannot complain for my first time ever driving a turbo honda at the track!

Looking good, get seat time in and enjoy it. Bring it down here and we can set it up on the track.

Thanks, yeah, this was my first time ever driving a turbo honda at the track. I had no 2step and no launch control setup. At 11psi the car made 278whp and 200tq.

I was shocked when you told me your numbers, especially on the rod and piston setup. You definitely got the parts to make more power, turn it up!

I took the car back to the track tonight. The conditions were not as favorable (the track looked like utter ****) and managed an 8.12. I'm still on 11 psi.

Headed for a Dyno session (finally) on Saturday September 15th. Time to turn the boost up and see what this car can do.

Went to the dyno yesterday and had my 2 step setup, and turned the car up to 16psi. Still on 93 octance. The dyno started acting up, so I'm headed back in 3 weeks for race gas numbers and 25+psi.

Took the civic back out to the track today. 1/8th mile, best time:

60': 1.81
1/8th mile time: 7.82 @ 86.4 MPH

It's starting to hook better as my previous best was an 8.04 @ 90MPH

Kills list from today:
Turbo C5 ZO6 (best time was 7.88)
Newer STI (exhaust, minor bolt ons) (best time was 8.30)
2011 Mustang GT (i/h/e) (best time was 8.43)

I'm really enjoying this car and the seat time!

Thanks Greg! And thanks for the fast shipment on the vband two weeks ago, saved me on the dyno!

I'm going to run in the street class in IFO in November. Looking forward to repping autoworks and one cam.

So I have finally finished the interior of the car. Dyed everything black, bought some CTR Carpet and a set of Black JDM ITR Recaro's. I even picked up some help with a small sponsorship with Greg @ Autoworks, I'm looking forward to his advice/help to get the car faster and faster.

I took the car back to the dyno yesterday and my tuner is still having issues with his dyno, so I couldn't get any accurate numbers. The good news is that the boost is now turned up to 28psi on an extremely conservative tune until I get used to the car at this power level. I'm running in my first event this Sunday (IFO Montgomery) and am pretty excited. Here's a few pics and two dyno pulls on 28psi:

I honestly have no clue. We are running 4 degrees less timing than Autoworks was around this level to be conservative. They were around 550whp and running a bit more boost on a smaller turbo. My guess would be around the 475whp mark.

I figured I'd post an update since I've had a bit more time with the car. The final dyno numbers were 458whp/300tq @32psi on c16. I took the car out two different times and had issues with the car breaking up. I was excited to be running consistent 7.8x's with this issue as I felt the car had more in it.

Fast forward to my next time out at the track in May and we found out the plugs were the issue. I swapped to iridium's and the car ran great. I finally got down to a 7.60 @ 98mph with a 1.71 60' (also ran a 7.65 and 7.66 that same night, 7.60 was the last pass), bouncing off the rev limiter in first 4 times, hitting the rev limiter in 3rd and shifting into fourth (was my first night with 450whp and the car running properly).

I then left two days later for Import Showdown and my car was running odd (we only got three passes in due to weather). With my 1/8 mile times two nights prior, I felt confident I could get the car to an 11.50 (which is the goal with this setup), but sadly it was not in the cards. My 1/8 times were consistently in the very high 7's, or low 8's. The car would not boost over 20 psi. This gave me my fastest 1/4 mile time of 12.20, 1.9-2.0 60' times.....but the one positive thing was that two of the passes netted 120MPH trap speeds. So I had the speed for the 11.50, it was just my short track that killed me.

Looking forward to continued seat time and beating the hell out of this car. I'm going to change the setup a bit in the future, but not until this car is running 7.3x 1/8th mile times and 11.5x 1/4 mile times. If the car holds together, I'm confident with more seat time that I will be runnign these times at some point this year.

Here is a video of the 7.60 @98mph (obviously recorded with an Iphone being held vertically)
