We all seen how much metal shavings the AT plug can attract. That how AT suppose to be. That's why it's magnetic.

What about engine motor oil drain plug?

Does it work just as effective? Or there should not be that much metal shavings from the engine?

Sure, I could try it. But why spend the $$$ if I don't have to.

Your take on magnetic oil drain plugs?

i always get small amounts of shavings on my magnetic plugs. not enough to really make me worry.

i got the oil and tranny plugs for about $30. so to me it was worth it. it's only $30.

For you Honda experts. Are oil drain bolts and ATF drain bolts the same for all Hondas?

To be specific, K24 and J35. I asked the vendor and gotten no response. They only list the I4 but not for the V6. And is the bolt the same for AT and manual? Agian, they only list "transmisission" bolt.

This is on a brand new b20 build at its first oil change. Can't imagine its gonna get any worse from here unless I screw something up down the road.

I placed my order, and will install it on the next oil change, for both my cars. My engines are 30K-45K miles. I wonder what I'll see?

I'll update in a 6-8 months.

I'm not sure who has them,but the best one I've seen is that high power magnet that slips over the oil filter, the entire filter becomes magnetic, when you change the oil you simply move it to the new filter, one of the few gimicky items that actually does something useful, the magnetic drain plugs work, but have a very small surface area.

I stick a large magnet to the oil filter. That way the metal bits stay in the filter and when I change out the filter i slide off the magnet to the new filter.

Since I already ordered my plugs, I'll be going a different direction.

For my info, I'm trying to figure this out, where do you put the magnet? IRCC, when you remove the oil filter, it looks like this:

OK, as I type, I think I know what you are saying. Put the magnet on the OUTSIDE, on the oil filter body.

They have ones that slip around the filter. You can also epoxy something along the lines of a cobalt or rare earth magnet to a hose clamp and put that around the filter.

I'm seen it listed both ways. Is the longer one for the engine or trans? Or does it matter? The transmission normally should have more shaving, right?

put a small spin on filter and adapter between the one of the tranny cooler lines and the radiator connection, then stick a big magnet on it, it will filter a heck of a lot better then the screen in there

A tranmission is always going to a very minimun amount of metal in it. You really shouldnt have any to none on your engine oil plug only on a rebuilt engine will you see the most.

The long one goes in the oil pan. It will hit the diff if you put it in the trans.

My coolant drain plug was covered in that black sludge shavings. I wasn't sure if the water pump was saying **** you or the new radiator just has that much **** in it from manufacturing.
