Im in the process of doing this to my car. things I'm going to use
vht wrinkle paint
aerosal paint stripper
paint thinner or brake cleaner
blade
scrub pad
brush
180 grit sander
masking tape
and bake for 180 degrees for 20 minutes

Skip the paint thinner/brake cleaner. Acetone will do a better job of grease/wax removing without leaving its own residue.

i had the same problem deciding what color i wanted to paint my valve cover, then i deiced to do this



I stripped off all the paint using a sand blaster and just sanded the hell out of it to make it shine, then covered it with a clear coat, then accented the letters and spark plug cover blue.

Just a different idea

ive always just used regular paint and never had any issues with flaking or chipping. i prefer krylon acrylic enamel.

this was my b20v


chips on the left side was from vibrating against the hood. had it painted like this for 6 months and never flaked or nothing

Vht wrinkle black ftw. And that chromed setup looks awesome. For an alternative look try strippin it down and sanding it w/800-1000 grit, then woop out the dremel with large polishing wheels and painstakingly polish her out. Every nook n cranny. I wanna do this but not without n extra vc and gasket. Im not gona rip off my vc and put it back on with the old gasket, and i would especially not hit it w/some cheezy cheap paint. Looks like uncle bens ready rice like that. Just my opponion.

i've painted more valve covers then i can recall and save for one time using the vht crinkle stuff i've always used rustoleum and the paint has held up very well, even though it was in no way designed for any kind of high heat.
