Piston movement in block normal?
I have an 01 civic ex w/ d17a2. I pulled off the head and I noticed that the pistons have a lot of movement in them and I was jw if it was normal never seen it on my other engines.
Here's the video if you can even tell or see the pistons moving
TIA

^^ Agree.
How much is a lot? They'll move a little, like 100ths of an inch. Why did you have to pull the head? Did you overheat it and ruin the rings too?

Yes pulled the head cuz of overheating(bad headgasket)
If I fried the rings their would've been a lot of smoke right? It wasn't smoking at all

Video link isn't working.
Man, that sucks if it's a goner. The one ray of sunshine is that these engines are super cheap right now. There all over the local CL for $300-500 with about 100K. Or you can find a decent price here: http://www.car-part.com/
EDIT: Is the block warped?

And if its a gonner I might just rebuild it. I'd rather spend the money on that then buying a used 100k engine and taking my chances with it. The car only has 108k on it. And since I got it its been nothing but problems. I hate these 01-03 civics sorry ill stick to my ctr lol

Good deal. You'll save some serious change rebuilding it. Maybe time to think about upgraded internals and a turbo. Or maybe it's time to think about a swap.
Yeah, much rather have my '91 back. Tired of fixing suspension problems every 50K miles and constantly replacing rubber.

Re: Piston movement in block normal?
Anu piston movement that seems abnormal is a sign of depleted rings or out of round cylinders. If you dont care about blow by or anything then put it back together and drive it till it blows up. However if you do decide to rebuild which is what I would do it would use a bore guage or a telescoping guage and confirm that it was indeed only the rings and not the cylinder walls themselves.
