Default D16Z6 swap having trouble starting/staying on.

What's up! I been having a few issues with my swap lately that I just recently swapped into my car. When I first swapped it in I had to replace the starter. When it finally turned over, it started right up but eventually when the motor would start to warm up the rpms would tank, untill the motor cut off. So I cleaned the iacv sensor aswell as the fast idle thermo sensor and the pvc valve. Now my car will start, but will not even stay on to even warm up. The rpms tank immediately and after one or 2 times when I try to keep starting it, it will turn over but won't start. I jus want it to turn on, and stay on! And run without the risk of getting stuck on the road.

Do you have a catalytic converter on it? also do you ride on E often, even if you dont you could have a clogged fuel filter.

Check and make sure that your fuel pump stays on after it primes. Sounds like it primes then the car starts uses all the fuel then dies. This would be my best guess.

Did you check if any of the plugs by the throttle body is loose by chance? TPS, MAP? Also make sure IACV plug isn't loose. What did you clean it with?

Yes, I do have a cat on and the cars been sitting for the past 2 months because I cannot get it to stay on. But before than, I rarely ever drove on e but the fuel filter definitely needs to get replaced soon for I haven't replaced it since I bought the car 2 years ago.

Everything seems to be plugged up good and I was told to clean the sensors with brake cleaner.

I can give it has once it does start but, usually a rough start. But once I let off the rpms dive and the motor kills. I have a stock ecu from my d15 plugged up right now but I will be hookin up a chipped p28 soon. Once I get the d16z6 running good. As of right now I Reused everything from the d15 for the swap. I have a short ram intake and an exhaust thats pretty much about it.

Extra info: the car doesn't always turn on. Usually when it wants to once then after the motor kills. It's done for until I try it later. It's strange. Any reasoning behind this?

Are the plug wires installed in the correct firing order?

Is there spark at all 4 plugs?

Are all 4 injectors spraying gas?

Does the hole leading to the FITV in the throttle body pull air when the engine is cold?

Plugs are in the correct firing order. As for checking the spark. Do I jus put a screw driver on the plug and and try and start the car? If it sparks I'm assuming I'm good togo. And as for the injectors, how do I check these?

make sure the fuel pump is priming when you turn the key. look at the fuses under the hood make sure none are blown. if still no priming it could be the main relay. its usually under the kick panels on the drivers side.(searching Google will help)

Click the spark link in my signature.

In some cases, you can remove the fuel rail with the injectors, crank the engine, and watch whether the injectors spray fuel.

The coil in the dizzy was bad so I replaced it with another dizzy I had laying around, as for the rotor. It should still be new, I replaced that when I did the swap. And the plugs seem to be getting spark. The spark plugs however when I pulled them out were all black so I cleaned them and put them back in. Should I change those? Why are they black? And I'm still getting a scent of gasoline in my oil. The car will turn over but still will not start.

Next step would be to see if your injectors are firing.

Update: so I have not yet checked to see if the injectors are firing. Still a little confused about how to go about that but I've kept the battery charge up with cables every once and a will. When tried to start, its turning over, timing belt is good and spinning, and fuel seems to be priming but it won't start. Or if it does, it barely starts and the rpms barely even move before it kills. Is it the fuel filter that's clogged or the actual injectors themselves. Should I grab a new set on ebay? Or are they able to be cleaned.

when i clean my injectors i use a battery jump box and take 2 pins from a connector and slide them over the pins and i spray carb cleaner down them then take a air compressor on 40-60psi and connect the positive and neg to the pins and spray them with carb cleaner thru the injector then take a blowgun and blow them out.

If you take the distributor off and with the key in the "ON" position. Take the distributor drive gear and spin it slowly. If you listen closely you can here the injectors fire one at a time as you spin the gear.

Today it randomly started and usually I could keep the car started by pumping the gas but it seemed to be getting enough. Trying to idle on its on. It surprisingly did for all of a full minute then the rpms dove back down and the motor kilt. Could it be a leak somewhere? A sensor? Should I replace the fuel filter?
