New to the site hoping to get some help. I have a P1361 and P1362 (Intermittent and no signal for TDC) code on a 1999 6th Gen civic EX manual trans. Been going off the Honda FSM diagram I have downloaded from this site on trouble shooting the problem. I know some basics of electrical but that’s it only basics, was hoping someone could look at what I’ve done see if I’m doing it correct and point me in the right direction?
Here is what I have tested so far: Reset ECM, code came back 1 day later. I tested resistance at the male 8P connector coming from the dist. and was getting right at 350 ohms for each sensor. This is right at the lower limit, could this be a problem? I tested continuity form the male connector coming coming from the dist. (Black probe on ground, red on each male terminal) NO continuity on any terminal, but also checked female terminal leading to ECU and had continuity on Black, red, white but none on blue, green yellow? I have checked continuity of wire harness and all six wires from dist sensors (blue, green, yellow, white, red, blk) have continuity. With dist connector plugged back in, I unplugged and checked ECM 31P female connector and was getting right at 350 ohms. Tested for continuity on unplugged 31P female connector and not getting any continuity. My diagram out of the Honda FSM seems to point to bad ECM but isn’t that very rare, I know these sensors going out is a common problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated before I buy a new ECU and or Dist. Thanks in advance! |

Did you test the two TDC sensor wire terminals in the ECU connector for a short (continuity to body ground)?

RonJ@HT,
Thanks for the quick reply, I did not check that prior. Just went out and checked continuity from the actual ECU with ecu connector unplugged right? Heres what I got with black probe attached to body ground, red probe to C20 on ecu where green wire goes NO continuity for TDC P sensor. Then tested TDC M sensor C21 were red wire goes and HAVE continuity. What do you think? |

You clearly have a short. Now do the same short test at the distributor plug (distributor side). If there's no short there, then the red wire has a short. Locate the short and repair it or run a new wire.

Ok just tested at the unplugged distributor plug (distributor side) black probe to ground and red porbe to dist terminals. NO continuity to any 8 of the terminals. So that means red wire is shorting out on something in the wire harness creating a short (continuity)?

Ok thank you I will try running a new red wire and see if that fixes the problem. I really appreciate the time and help on this, may have saved me from throwing parts at it! I will post the results when done.

Hello all,
I am trying to renew car tabs. And need to pass emission test for that. However the test failed because computer threw code P1362. I had the Check engine light on for few months now. I tried to reset it using scan tool, but it came back up as soon as i started my car. All i am looking here is how to pass the emission test. Any suggessions will help. Thanks. |
