2004 Civic Si Sedan - Shuttering/Vibration
Hello Everyone.
Symptoms:
- 1600-2100 rpm the front end of the car will shake.
- this shake doesn't not occur in park or neutral
- it almost feels like you are driving on a washed out gravel road. but only in the front end
Checked Engine Mounts and they seem to be fine
This made me think it was either drive-axle related, however a mechanic friend said to have the CV Joints checked out as well.
Appreciate any help that comes of this.

mine (2004 civic base model sedan automatic) is doing the same thing cruising around in drive at steady throttle 35-45 mph. if i let off the gas, give it gas or put in neutral it goes away. if i do nothing it lasts for what seems like an eternity. i cant get it to do it in 3rd gear.

When in the inboard joint goes bad on the left side axle, under acceleration it feels almost like a shimmy/shutter in the bottom of your seat, basically when it happens you feel it on your back side.
When the inboard joint on the right side goes bad, you get a pretty nasty vibration and can usually duplicate and hold it by dragging the brakes while applying the gas. I usually test this side on a lift using this method and it shakes pretty violently.
philliwa, I read shutter yesterday and by reading the above you can see why I said left side, but don't rule out you may need both sides.
Also, these symptoms only apply if the vibration is occurring under acceleration. If this problem occurs at a particular vehicle speed and can be maintained if holding speed steady, it could quite possibly be a torque converter issue. Flushing the trans fluid sometimes will help the issue (when I say flushing I mean, draining and filling 3 times, 3 quarts each time) and I believe there is a software update that tries to help remedy this as well but that would have to be done at your local dealership. You would have to contact them about cost.

For those who seem not to understand what a Canadian market model years 2004 and 2005 Si sedan is; basically a US market EX with daytime running lights, metric odometer, and low washer fluid level light without the side air bag option. Not as nice as the Acura EL, was the top level Civic sedan for those two years.

got ya, that's what I come to find out on the net, it was confusing me, as I have never seen one before. it is crazy how close to us Canada is, but the options of cars that we don't have is amazing, sorry for cluttering the thread with useless info.

Hey guys. Sorry I hadn't been on the page for a while. Had some stuff come up with work that has kept me pre occupied
So. I just picked up my car from the shop today.
Ended up having new Front Axles replaced and a new Driver Side Bearing
Noticed improvement on some issues I hadn't really noticed.
HOWEVER
Still having the First Issue.
Now it's got me wondering...

Turns out a new torque converter can be bought on ebay for $150 new or less with it being rebuilt/refurb

Re: 2004 Civic Si Sedan - Shuttering/Vibration
A chased a vibration in my 2001 Civic LX for a long, long time...lots of wasted $$. In the end I replaced the tie-rod ends and it vanished. I had checked them, they seemed fine but for whatever reason, that was the issue.

Re: 2004 Civic Si Sedan - Shuttering/Vibration
The fact that mine is only happening at certain rpm/speed is what is driving me nuts... Just can't keep dropping money to chase different ideas. Sucks
