I just replaced my rear rotors and pad on my 96 GSR from Auto Zone. Yes, they gave me the right pads and rotors. I greased them up everything went fine. But what I noticed was when I went to drive it I did notice that the new pads and rotors were alittle tite. Is that normal? After just driving for about 2-3 miles I noticed when I stopped that the rear breaks were smoking. Got home and saw the rear breaks were really hot and smoking.

What could be wrong? I got the duralast gold pads and rotors. Please give me alittle insight on this. THanks

Obviously the pads are riding on the rotors.

I would make sure hand brake is operating properly, releasing all the way when off. 94

What exactly did you lube?

Did you lube the sliding pins?

I did lube the back of the pad. But that doesn't explain the reason why the rotors are getting that hot. The pad are rubbing against the rotors for some reason. The only thing I can think of is I did take the e-break cable off from the rotor in order to take off the caliper. I made sure I put every back the way it was which wasn't alot. I'll check it out right now and see. And report back.

Hmm...why is the back of the pad lubed? I've always put Disc Quiet which dried to a rubbery compound, but haven't ever heard of lubing the back of the pad.

Did you grease the slide pins?

TOO MUCH TORQUE

the only place that needs to be lubed is the caliper slide pins. Everywhere else just needs to be cleaned off very well. I find that putting lube where the pad and caliper brackets touch just makes it stick and eventually harden.
If you do decide to put lube on the brackets and touch, add a VERY light coat just to help it slide a little.

Did you compress the piston in with the correct tool? If you just tried to compress the piston with a c clamp and not turn the piston as your pushing in the caliper is prob junk now. You dont need to remove the e brake cable to do rear brakes.

For the slides you use Sylglide, not brake lube, and you are actually supposed to cover any contact patches on the back of the pads and the tabs sticking off the sides of the pads, and the little metal inserts that those tabs go in. I don't know why you lube the back of the pad, but every dealership I have ever worked at, that's how it was done.
