Your Civic is OBD1. I think your VX should have a P07 ECU, though.

oh yeah sorry my mistake. P07. so the harness is a OBD 1 if i do an engine swap what engine would be easy to do? im geussing the engine have to be OBD1 too.
if i do an engine swap do i have to remove swap the harness or can i just reuse the factory harness. sensors etc.

^^The easiest swap would be a direct replacement, but I am assuming you would like more power. B series like a B16 or B18 would be the easiest. F/H's are a little more tough fitting everything into the bay etc. K's are even harder and J's (v6 motor) are extremely difficult from what I have heard.

The "harder" the swap is, the more expensive it will be too. However, the cheaper/easier swaps do not yield as much power as others in stock form.

You can swap in an OBD2 motor, but it would be easier to go OBD1.

You can probably re-use the same harness for a B/F/H swap. Cutting and lengthening wires would be about all you need to do if anything. Most of the OBD1 motors use the same plugs/sensors.

Hi i was looking to get into the JDM b18c GSR motor from HMO.
ive got the 5 to 4 wire conversion for the vx harness. are all jdm GSr motors obd1 or obd2. can i do this motor swap w/out removing the factory vx harness?
will i have to mod my vx harness?

Save yourself the headache and keep your old engine harness, lol. I just recently did a swap on my 93 civic vx with a 1998 d16y8 and everything is easy; however, it's a bitch to find a virgin p28 ecu, lol. Just make sure that you have the right tools to take out your stock parts or else it's going to be very frustrating to do even a simple engine swap.

OBD is the same between all makes and models, just depends on the year. 95 and below are obd1 and 96 and up are obd2.

no one really messes with obdo any more so you shouldnt have any issues with picking up a obd0 motor.

you can put a obd2 motor in an obd1 car. for example if u wanted a 98 spec type r swap from hmo you can buy it install it in your car and then you are good to go. the only thing you would have to change is the distributer plugs, and hard wire a sensor or 2.

it is very easy. if your looking for a plug and play swap. i would recomend a obd1 gsr. bc its obd1 and its a gsr lol.

make sure u use the search button and dont ask stupid questions lol.

Add wiring for VTEC, knock and IABs. Convert 5 wire 02 to 4 wire.

i am going to use the stock vx harness then. do i still need to add wiring for vtec? because i thought that the original vx harness already came with vtec, will that work for it? or is the b18c vtec wiring differ from the vx harness? and the knock and IABS how do i add those? i already have a 5 wire o2 to 4 wire sensor kit? thanks.

You don't need to add vtec since you've already got it. There are a few things you will run into though.

You will need to wire up IAB from the intake manifold down to the ECU per the 94-95 Integra wiring.

If your using the JDM P72 ECU that comes with the swap, your going to need to add wiring for the knock sensor from the knock sensor down to the ECU. This is supposed to use shielded wire to suppress interference. I don't know how necessary this is though as I run a P28 which doesn't have knock.

You will want a dual-core radiator from a Del Sol VTEC. The hose headers are bigger on the B-series motors, and you don't want to try to squeeze your hoses to seal on the stock radiator. Plus the extra cooling capacity of the dual core is always a good thing.

PS: IMHO The VX model civic is the most special Civic ever made. It's way way better than the Si with many parts that truly make it special. An all original VX is really gonna be worth something some day. Maybe still needs to be lowered...

sigh, another VX bites the dust. The CX is only like 10 lbs heavier. It's not gonna kill your 1/4 to the next stop light.
