Default Tipping the Letter Carrier

Let me preface by saying I have tipped our letter carrier for the last 5 years usually in the winter. Do you guys tip the letter carrier? In the mail today they were soliciting part time help at a local branch for $18.67 an hour. Once I saw that, I decided it was time to end the tipping. Discuss, debate and converse

on average they're getting paid 50k a year to leisurely walk around and put letters in boxes. plus full benefits.

screw tipping.

seriously....why would you tip someone from that occupation? will they make your mail arrive sooner or better (is that possible?) if you tip them more? are they really gonna screw your mail up if you don't give them a christmas card and $100? what the hell do people even get in the mail anymore anyways? junk advertisements, and occasionally some updated car insurance cards. big whoop.

do you tip the fedex, ups and dhl guy too? or just if their shorts are short enough.

i understand tipping waitresses because it's a more face on face thing and they can actually provide better service by asking if you need anything (but not doing it too much), dealing with any mistakes...etc, and for haircuts....since you're basically bribing the person to not screw up the backside the next time you come in. not postal workers though....its impersonal and they're just doing a (well paying) job.

It depends, my guy takes care of me. If it doesn't fit in my mailbox he puts it by my side door for me. (Drive up mailman)

And even though I live on a really affluent road, I try to do my part. It's not required of course but even at 50k, they aren't rich by any means lol

My old mailman was really cool, he worked our route for I think close to 15 years, we'd always give him Xmas cards and gifts, and he would always make sure to put stuff that wouldn't fit in the mailbox on our covered porch instead of right next to the box where it wasn't covered. After he retired we got a new mailman that kept putting the wrong mail into my box and my mail into the neighbor's, I didn't like him that much.

I have a female mail carrier. I gave her a tip once and she wasn't too pleased, so she slid the rest of it in.

my wife is a 11yr carrier.
yes she gets paid well. on her previous route, she was tipped well. but she also hustled. went out of her way to get needed post to people, packages early, hell she still gets a card on her bday from an old customer. and cards for the kids.

now on her new route, she does over 1000 cluster boxes and last year got a re gifted gift card and a coupon to the mall. she works 10 times harder.

we dont tip our carrier (he lived here for pretty much free for a year and a half) plus he made out better than wifey on her old route hahaa.

but if your carrier hustles for you, tip them.

My mailman told me my garage is a mess and it is terrible that I filled the space with car parts. He said it looks like hell and didn't laugh after. Plus he yelled at me several years ago when I went around him as he was stopped at a mailbox. Yeah because I want to wait and stop behind you for the next 30 mailboxes before you get to my house. He is nice now though lol, but I do not tip him.

my dad is a letter carrier in nyc and its not an easy job. rain or shine, snow, or 100deg with full humidity he is outside walking 6+ miles a day pushing his mail cart on crowded streets he bust his *** 6 days a week for almost 25 years doing the samething. alot of people tip him actually. and we always tip the mail man. the ups man also.

he takes care of all the old people on his routes making sure they get their packages and mail.
he did get to meet alot of people tho. hes in about 3+ movies in the background like freshman a few van dame movies and a steven segal movie.
he saw al pacino pushing his mail cart around one time haha. he thought someone was trying to steal his mail cart till he saw who it was. he wanted to see how it was like to push one around.
he also mentions how people send boxes of **** to al sharpton alot.

I would only tip my paper boy because he sticks it in the mailbox for me. It is a little request, but he complies and my paper is never soaked or anything.

25$ at christmas.

My mailman, F- him. He doesn't deliver if there is a car parked within 10 ft of my mailbox. Granted they aren't allowed to get out of their vehicle, I live in a nice neighborhood. If he didn't keep driving the 3 or 4 times I saw him swerve past 3 mailboxes on my street because of a couple cars, I might toss him a gift certificate or something on xmas cause I'm generous
