Default $250 for an OEM Type R Cat-back?

So heres the thing...my B-pipe rusted completely through and now i am running with nothing from my resonator back...ITS LOUD! And its in between paychecks so i don't have $500 to drop on a new exhaust...i don't want some ebay Can on the back of my car...the only option i saw was the Apexi ws2 but that was too expensive...and maybe still too loud for me

I did some research and from what i can tell, the Type R will bolt directly on my 2001 LS and give a little more breathing room over stock (2.25" vs 1.9") and it won't attract the cops or the ricers

Looked around, all the sites that have it for sale its close to $500 for the part...searched ebay and found this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Acura...0#ht_500wt_976

Now, i've bought this...because i'm going insane listening to my exhaust SCREAMING at me....But, why is it so cheap? Am i being ripped off? is this a clone or fake? the pics LOOK like the same thing as on password JDM:
http://passwordjdm.com/Honda-OEM-Int...P2924C214.aspx

The guy who's selling it is about 30 minutes from where i live...so i'm going to try to negotiate so i can pick it up...and pay after i've seen it....Is there some way i can confirm its an Actual Type-R exhaust when i get there?

Iono, all though the part number is the same, it doesn't look much like a type R. Usually if its too good to be true, then its a fake. It's just so easy now to make fakes. I would definitely go take a look at it in person, and just read his body language. Body language is usually a clear sign of whether the person is bs u know. I would try that first. But if its real, damn thats a steal. O n two thumbs up because you drive an LS. hahahaha.

I'm certain that that ebay company makes their exhausts themselves -- there' s no way that's a OEM exhaust. They just call it a Type R exhaust because it's bent to fit.

Good call on the exhaust...i emailed him and asked and heres a quote from the email:

Aftermarket system that replaces the OEM Type-R exhaust. New directly from our manufacturer Autopart International.

...just get a Vibrant Muffler & Carsound cat and call it a day. W/the custom piping your probably looking at $250-300'ish for your choice of piping (2"-3") For an exhaust that will out-perform OEM standards and keep a clean stock-looking appearance.

Muffler (Come in all Inlet sizes):

On Car:

...just my $.02

Doesn't running without a Resonator give it a whispy, buzzing sound?

Not on my last DC2...plus Cat silences most of this.

That setup (Vibrant/Carsound Cat) will sound similar to a WS2 setup. At idle it'll sound slightly deeper, at WOT it will be louder than stock. But not like melon shooter. The appearance is as "stock" as could be as well. Should be tons of youtube clips though.

Just a thought..like i said, very appealing to me, my wife, and my twins. lol

Does the Vibrant come with a B-pipe? The OP's problem is rust on his B pipe.

I can also vouch for the WS2 if you want a close to stock sound. It's louder but not obnoxiously so. My wife likes it and my non-car-loving neighbors compliment me on the sound of my car from time to time.

What you're paying for with exhaust systems is fitment and longevity. Even though they're kind of expensive, I wouldn't recommend skimping. Much of the cost is a materials cost, so cheap exhausts have had a lot of corners cut.

I drove down to the local Acura dealership during my lunch break today and ordered part number 18220-ST7-R60 which *should* be the USDM ITR B-pipe...it cost me $258 BUT looking online, a lot of those places wanted close to $200 JUST FOR SHIPPING!

Now i need to find a good Axle back 2.25" setup...Someone on here is selling an entire Cat to Tailpipe JDM ITR exhaust system...i PM'd him about splitting it up...but who knows...the B-pipe was the main issue with my exhaust...i'd LIKE the ITR Axle back to match the B-pipe....but that can wait a week or so if i have to
