2001 Accord lx 4 cyl/Power steering
The other day when I got to work I smelled oil of some type when I pulled up. I popped the hood to find that my power steering reservoir had spilled over and noticed that my steering was howling a little. Car has 83,000 miles on it and I do regular service to it so I open the hood to check things on a regular basis.
Did a few searches and found that there is an updated o-ring for the supply side of the pump on some Honds and Acura's. My car does not have a manifold with an o-ring it just has a intake pipe for the return fluid made onto the pump.
Power steering fluid is swirling around in the reservoir but is foaming and over flowing when I turn the wheel back and forth.
Pump? Hose? Rack?
Thanks,
A

sounds like there might be some kinda blockage wheres its not lettin all the fluid to the rack or pump itself... like wen turning it sends more fluid to the pump to compensate more fluid to whichever side your turning on the rack.. if it dont all make it to the rack its gotta go somewhere which could lead to overflowing wen turning wheel back n forth

Monday bump. reply. O-ring! The pump HAS to have an inlet and outlet. The o-ring seal is on the high side of the pump....of course all of this "assumes" there are no other "leaks" in the system. How often have you had to add PS fluid?
There is more to this story? If it is not leaking on the high side then there is a leak on the suction side......last, pump is gone.....
What kind of PS fluid is/has been added to the system. IF is was/if not Honda fliuid, well this becomes another story ALL together.
Do not mess with Honda trans or ps fluid.....IMO.

poorman212 thanks for the reply. No leaks/Honda fluids used. Added a hose clamp to the low side of the pump inlet. Same results. I have a pump so I'm goint to drain as much fluid as possible and replace it.
