Default 1 broken lug nut stud OMG!!

my dumb *** friend over tight one of my lug nut stud and it broke off, now my car runs hella shitty when u doing 70-80mph, it literally shakes my front end. Can the one broken stud fucc up the driving stability?

not really but it could if the rims are non oem and the hub rings dont align properly. just get a new stud for a dollar and slap it in

So 3 out of 4 tightened will balance the same as 4 tightened and spin the same?

Listen to me, fix this ASAP. It will break more than one as time/miles roll on. I had a rear with 3/4 tightened and 99... my car broke down on the way to Indiana(not even 100 miles in). I knew better but immaturity controlled the situation. It's a simple 10 dollar fix as long you have access to a press.. I've had them go bad on a trip(IU) and a neighborhood ride just miles away. Not worth the labor to NOT fix it prior to anything happening..

yea rims are oem, it drove fine before the stud broke, now it shakes like the tires are outta balance or something. Where can I find a stud for a dollar? Do I have to press the hub bearing out to get to the stud?

Yes and when I last checked they were like 8 bucks at honda.. Looks like 1.75+shipping on ebay.

First, there is noithing wrong with running on 3 of the four for a short time. Assuming all of the others are tightened to proper spec.

Yes, I am speaking from experience. I drove my car for over a year with only 3, and guess what? NOITHING happened.

No, you do not need to press in a new bearing. All you need to do is grind one edge of the stud, and it should slip right in. Again, I am speaking for experience. it's very very simple to do.

You can go down to a autoparts store and pick up studs all day long. But I would adivse biting the bullet and buy OEM, or something such as ARP studs.


When you broke the stud, and before you drove it, did you make sure to tighten the others to the correct spec?

Same here. Had a stud that was crossed threaded or a while. Never had vibrating/shaking issues. Possibly something else is broken/warped now.

ive driven with 2 studs stripped on a 4 lug perfectly fine. its not safe but who cares.
and yes autozone sells studs for cheap. i think 1-2 bucks last time i went i grabbed like 10

No reason to have a pissing match when we've obviously both have had different experiences.. You're given 4 studs to tighten 4 lugs. Can you run 3? Sure. Should you be so comfortable with it to not fix it? If its only shaking @ 75-80, like someone already stated, you might already have something out of whack.

Im not sure if it's all tight to spec cause it was my dumb friend who did it(thought he knew how to fix cars) cause i had to go pick up the wife. whats the spec anyways? I'll have to double check, but most likely i'll replace the stud. anyone got a quick picture or a do it yourself instruction on taking out the stud without a press? I wanna see where u have to grind to make sure it'll be ok to grind before I get into bigger trouble lol

There's nothing wrong with an Autozone replacement stud. I rode on 3 lugs for probably 2 years and finally replaced it when I started autocrossing about 5 months ago. Been holding up fine.

ok called honda this morning and they want 8 bucks for it, so I said umm f it since im only replacing 1 i'll it up autozone. grabbed a new one from autozone for $1.99 came out to $2.15 out the door. I pretty much follow the video on youtube and grinded down the stopping plate on the new stud. I grinded the stud all the way down on one side but it still didn't have enough clearence to shoot the stud straight into the hole on the hub plate, so I had to grind down the side of the knuckle a bit to get it clear meanwhile I had the new grinded stud in the freezer. after a bit of grinding the knuckle I got the stud from the freezer and it poped right into the hole. I then used a 32mm axle nut and a lug nut to tight and pull the new stud into its home. Everything worked out flawless and the car seems to ride much better now.
