Default $The Value Thread$ What's It Worth? Should I Buy? What's the Cost?

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$

You have come to the thread dedicated to questions about value and purchases rather than technical issues, which is the main focus of the 92-00 Civic/Del Sol forum.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$

I've noticed many threads asking for opinions on the value of a car that a member is considering selling or buying. These types of threads don't fit well in a technical forum, but they seem to generate a lot of interest among our membership. So rather than close these non-technical threads, I thought we could consolidate them here.

From this point forward, please post your inquiries about the value or cost of a car, car part, or car repair/modification job in this thread. You can also post here questions about whether or not you should buy/trade a car or car part.

Please quote the inquiry in your response. Otherwise, this thread will become too disorganized and confusing.

***Note also that buying or selling is forbidden in this thread. Take such posts to the Marketplace.

Default price for head and block job at machine shop right?

this is for a d16z6
they quoted me $403 for a head and block job
heres whats included

Head: $178
resurface, valve job, grind and clean valves, hot tank/clean, install skunk2 valves with new valve seals, skunk2 valve springs and titanium retainers.

Block: $225
decked,bore and hone .5mm over to 75.5mm, hot tank/clean

im fine with the head job the only problem i have is the price for the block
IMO
BLOCK:
decked-$50
hot tank/clean-$40
bore and hone .5mm over $20 per hole X4 = $80
$170

thanks for anyones opinions

Why are you trying to be so cheap? Do they do a good job? Is their rep tight? You're haggling over a pittance. $55? C'mon.

I have an idea. Why don't you tell them what you want to pay and see what they say? Better yet, why not ask THEM why they're charging what they're charging and see what they say about that?
$55 bucks into an engine build is nothing. Most people spend $50 and not even remember what they spent it on at the end of the week.

You got it easy... Cost me damn near $500 to have the head on my jetta hot tanked, replace 4 valves, and resurface the mating surfaces... But I also got a hg kit with it

That's your opinion, it is not THEIR price. If you can find that specific work for the price you want to pay, then that's where you go. Otherwise, "You gotta pay to play."

If the shop is reputable. If it ain't, I would just spend the money somewhere else. Everywhere you go, it's about the same price. The main thing is are they any good. Please stay away from Cascar in Sacramento.

Recently my 99 SI sustained some front end damage. Bumper..fenders, radiator, hood, windshield cracked, frame reallignment, etc. Quoted $5000+ on repairs which is obviously more or as much as the car is actually worth.

Engine has *only* ~70k on it, and it still starts and I'm assuming is good to be pulled.

Leather GS-R seats up front add a little value

Good for parts from the motor back.

Wondering if anyone can guide me in getting the most out of selling the parts or as it is? I had some guy who passed the shop it's sitting at call and offer me $800 for it. How much am I losing out on if I ask for 1000$?

I know it's a sought after motor and with low mileage could be worth quite a bit more to someone but I'm in Michigan and you don't see a whole lot of honda around especially enthusiasts with mods etc so I don't know how long i'd be sitting on it. Also not much of a gearhead so part by part could be an issue.

Any help and or guidance would be greatly appreciated..especially if you're in the area and want this b16a!!

The shop has overhead. Those sound like good prices to me if the work is good. What are you doing to the crank?

I'm going to look at this beauty tomorrow...

Asking $3200obo... I'm looking for a daily, but also have many plans for it...140k miles, clean title, b18b1, 5speed, gsr seats, no ac/ps, intake, exhaust, headers, coilover, lower control bar and arms. I can do ac just needs compressor. Does it seem worth it? Thanks in advance!

a guy wants to trade me a aftermarket quick release steering wheel (whole setup, everything i need for the quick release)

and a greddy ek civic axle back exhaust for my front end and back bumper besides the grill

because im keeping my grill (real oem ctr grill)

it depends on what you need and what you can get rid of. what are you currently doing with your bumpers? do you need/want that wheel and exhaust? id do it if i had the bumpers just lying around
