There is a grinding/rubbing noise coming from the rear of my 2002 Honda Accord LX. We recently changed the rear brakes and the brake hardware too. The noise almost sounds like an engine when it is accelerating but the noise gets louder the faster I go and is best heard going 40 mph +. I know my front and rear struts are bad, but those are a different sound (more of a rattling). As far as I could see when we pulled the tire off, nothing unusual was rubbing against anything but we replaced the brake hardware anyway, this didn't do anything about the noise. Any Ideas of where to start?

sounds like a wheel bearing. drive the car up to speed when you start to hear the noise and swirve the car to the left or right in a safe area. if you turn left and its not as loud its your left vice versa for the right side it could be your front wheel bearing.

The bearing is only going to start making a noise as it develops play in the bearing. You can jack up the car and rotate the wheel and see if there's play. It will make a roaring sound while driving that gets louder as the wheel goes faster if the bearing is going bad. Normally a grinding is the backing plate getting bent and rubbing on the rotor after you worked on the brakes or it could be the shim sliding off and grinding onto the rotor. This happens when you don't make sure it's fully bent onto the brake pad so that it won't come off and slide to the rotor.
