I ran quaker state 10w30 for 7 years in my GSR and B20. Many track days and driven all over the country. Synthetic is overrated IMO.

I use Castrol Syntec. Though scientifically seems like a better option, I still prefer regular mineral oil; I think i'll swtich back.

I use synthetic, because I think that it offers better protection for the track. Oil temperature is interesting, measuring 200-210, or whatever number you get may not represent the temperature that the oil sees, say at the cam level, or up around the head. Interesting chart, though somewhat old, most of the number have not changed a lot. Most non-synthetics Flash from 390-410, and synthetics from around 450 and up, depending on weight and brand/formulation. Interestingly, the chart shows little difference in the synthetics, unless your budget allows Amsoil or Redline. Part of the chart problem is that some changed formulation of synthetics since the chart and are now using some or all hydro-cracked. I followed and used Mobil 1 for years and they even advertise differently than they used to. I believe that they have a blend of constructed and cracked oils. Not making a big statement about types as most are still good at the higher temperatures. A very interesting read and charts, lots of information is a short article.

Great info. Looks like I'm using the wrong brand. Maybe I'll use synthetic in my next oil change.

Interesting how the articles can sway people and in what direction. I use synthetic, but am less brand conscious. I am told that German/Euro compliant Castrol 0-30 is true synthetic. I use Store Brand Synthetic in family cars and go 6-7.5k and my mechanic just asked what I used. Said the TL head looked almost new at 220k miles. Got the same reaction in an older Integra with 275k miles. Since most of the synthetics are similar in flash and pour, and better than dino, they get to flow temp sooner and less burn off, or heat damage. To me its is still about some savings among the synthetics. I pay the extra for the oil during track season for the Integra that I track.

My answer then is synthetic and store brand or sale price.

When I owned my Prelude it had a oil burning problem like most H22 and I found Castrol GTX worked the best. Surprised the Ferrari link only recommended Penzoil and Valvoline. I did like Penzoil as well. I tried Synthetic in the Prelude and it just drank it.
The Integra seems to like the Synthetic, no burn off.

The Ferrari link gives a good understanding of oil pressure and flow. I put less stock in brands especially if the article is not updated. The other article,

http://micapeak.com/info/oiled.html

though old seems to more break along synthetics vs non. Even "cheap" synthetics have better flash and pour than non.
