How much does your race EG hatch weigh?
Curious how much a gutted race hatch weights.
If anyone knows how much theirs weights, could you post it?
Basically wondering if you can get the weight down to 1760 without cage and driver.
Would this do it?
Fully gutted interior (Just outer dash shell)
No sound deadening
1 Race seat
Race steering wheel
No AC
No power steering
No sunroof
Small battery
b16 engine and tranny
CF hatch
CF hood
Lexan windows (rear hatch and rear quarters)
Door completely gutted (no glass, no lexan)
15x7 te37's
225/45 15
Lightened bumper supports (still must stay recognizable but can be lightened per rules, whatever that means)
Titanium exhaust (header back) Not even sure anyone makes one.
AST shocks
Wilwood brakes
That is pretty much it, that can legally be done.
What do you think an eg hatch like this would weight?
No chance in hell?

I don't think it'd be 1650, maybe closer to 1850-1900. Other heavy stuff you'd want to consider to get that light:
-Shock weight
-Exhaust weight
-Brake weight
-Shock weight
-Exhaust weight
-Brake weight

Re: How much does your race EG hatch weight?
Damn. I thought it would be less considering the CX weights in at 2100.
Totally forgot about a few other things updated my list.
Thanks!
I wish I knew how much the entire interior, glass(excluding windshield), hood, and hatch weighted.
Then I could subtract that from the 2100 and just add the weight of a cf hood, cf hatch, cf race seat, and 3 rear lexan windows. That would tell me how far or close I would get to 1760.

eg si in h2 trim
2400 lbs at the end of a race. but i can definitely get it down to the 2200lb range with me in it (250lb driver). Kev said he had it down to sub 2000lbs when he ran it.

Re: How much does your race EG hatch weight?
Can you tell me more on what has been done to the car as it sits at 2400 with driver.
Full welded in cage?
Any lexan?
Any CF?
Are the doors gutted with no glass or lexan?
Sunroof?
On the 2000 lbs is that with driver and cage?
Thanks again guys!!

my car weighs in at 2350 with out driver... thats in a dc2 chassis with glass still, I have a passenger seat, carpet, door panels, full weld in/gusseted cage, Full turbo kit... So mine has lots more weight to shed but I doubt you could get our cars down to 1670 without some heavy mods to the body and structure which then wouldnt alow it in almost any thing.

Re: How much does your race EG hatch weight?
Simplest way to drop weight in a race car is to trim down the drivers belly. No joke. I lost 30 pounds over the winter just for autocross...
1670 seems really light, that's like old school Lotus status. Cutting metal may be your only option if you really wanted to go that light, or a tube frame chasis with carbon fiber brakes and suspension parts. Reducing unsprung weight it a big thing, so get the lightest wheel, tire, and brake package that you can. Run a fuel cell as well, eliminate the factory tank all together. Run as much titanium, aluminum, and carbon fiber/kevlar as you can. And start custom making stuff.

Re: How much does your race EG hatch weight?
Thanks guys, big time help, keep them coming!
Luckily I am 160 with full gear.
Also I made a mistake on the weight. The number I need with driver full fluids, cage etc after race(probably half a tank left of gas) is.... 2080.
So I am 160 lbs with driving gear
Welded in cage from my research is about 160 lbs.
So 320 - 2080 = 1760
So 1760 lbs curb weight with no cage is about what I am shooting for.

93 CX 2370lbs. full H2 trim fuel and driver.
Doors not gutted yet.
CF hood
All stock windows
I can remove some weight out of it and the driver can lose about 30 lbs.
If I put this car, and me on a diet i can get it down to 2200-2100 easy.

Re: How much does your race EG hatch weight?
Is that end of race or before race full tank?
Sorry for all the questions guys, just trying to calculate all this on paper and the more info I have the more accurate it will be.
Really appreciate all the help.

Re: How much does your race EG hatch weight?
Keep in mind that a lot of the racers here are limited to a minimum weight for their cars. There's not a lot of motivation to squeeze out every last pound when you're already at/under that number. Most US race series do not have weights as low as what you're describing.

Re: How much does your race EG hatch weight?
yes, your goals are tangible to someone that can understand all the dynamic variables that can lend themselves to accomplishing the goal at hand. because the immense time that weight reduction has consumed from me i am apprehensive to hand out noble ideas. just understand it is possible.
one of my philosophies and it coincides well with question/goal; the rate at which, one bleeds efficiency, is proportional to the compromises they fathom.
ill be interested in hearing if you accomplished your goal.

I know this is a tiny bit off topic but Pure-Tuning's K24 EK hatch Time Trials car weighs ~2000 even with driver and over half tank fuel

I did the official weighing myself this weekend at Mid Ohio for NASA book-keeping
if I'm not remembering right, I blame it on the all the alcohol from Saturday night

Re: How much does your race EG hatch weight?
I'm trying to get my CRX "down" to 2400lbs with 180hp for TTC we shall see if i can get that kinda HP from the A3
you really can get these hondas light, but the "basic" cage will help keep it stable and not be a flexy flyer.
we got a DC2 drag car super duper light... 3 guys in the front, and one in the back... we could pick it up and move it.

Re: How much does your race EG hatch weight?
The stock 88-89 Civic hatch weighs in the mid 1800s. I weighed mine with no interior and no engine and trans and it was down in the 1400lbs range. The glass is a huge weight to get rid off. I know on the EF the late doors alone weigh 75lbs each. The early doors without belts weigh in at 52lbs each. The windshield is 23 if I remember right. The hood is 18-20 and the "carbon" hood is about half the weight of the stocker.
A lot of the weight in production based cars comes in the form of unsprung weight. Custom uprights, aluminum calipers, lighter weight racing rotors will all help get the weight out. Sunroof cars are particularly bad about excess weight. Which means the SI version of any of them is packed full of excess junk. (which we all know). In many cases taking out things like the door beams, the hatch glass, quarter glass, etc will help out, but those things require lots of work.
Pounds start life as ounces, that is how you find all the savings. How many of you have disassembled the harness and removed all the unnecessary wiring from the whole car, how many of you have weighed all the little brackets, tabs, clips, etc on your car and figured out what you could do away with. There are a lot of little tabs on the stock chassis that should be tossed. Yes a class may have a minimum weight, but having the ability to place ballast where you want or being able to build a better cage will pay huge dividends in where you run on the big day.
