Default Pix of the new 98 EX V6

182,400 miles. I work at NAPA so I can fix it with ease.

Found this on craigslist for $3500. Jumped all over it. Leather is in great condition minus one small tear on the pass seat and the drivers seat needing re-stitching but not torn. Center console leather is dry and worn, steering wheel leather is worn from a hand always on the top.
Trunk is all there and in good shape and semi clean.

Given receipts for $1200 in recent repairs. All 4 corners with new tires rotors and brakes and one CV axle and tie rod only 2,000 miles ago. Needs other axle and may as well do the tie rod at the same time.
Battery was corroded and low output.Used battery from my Prelude which is a little too big but will get me to work..

Theres so much room in back, even 5'10" I can sit behind the drivers seat slid all the way back comfortably.

Would not have bought it due to the tranny issues with our 98-02 Accords on the V6 models.


Find a 04-06 Acura TL-s manual and get ready to swap it in. You'll need RichieV6 harness to take care of the automatic tranny reverse lockout feature, etc..

is there an auto that fits? and what particularly goes wrong with the v6 AT? mine runs fine but I'm noticing it downshifts a little hard when decelerating without the brakes applied.

Nope. The '98-'02s are completely computer controlled. And newer models are 5spds. There are a few failure modes, On Accords the 2nd gear cltuch paks prematurely wear and clog the other ports starving the transmission of fluid. On Odyssey transmissions there is a bearing that fails, sending shrapnel throughout the trans.

Does it make it seem like it stays in 1st gear too long? and if I let off before it hits 2nd would it seem like a manual trans where it lurches forward when you let off the gas in 1st?

If you search through the forum you will find a few posts on erratic or rough shifting. You may want to have the car brought to a reputable Honda dealer and have them inspect it. Honda did increase the mileage warranty on some of these models. Check the fluid, it may be due for a flush.

ive been clearing out old threads with my answers and findings. haha 3 year old bump here.

Anyway turns out the hard shifting was the passenger MOTOR MOUNT.
Now the car is dead due to gues what....TRANS FAILURE! haha. Im guessing Torque converter. Power not applied to wheels until 1800 rpm, shudders at onset, while limping home i noticed the tach jumping, and on decel it completely dropped to idle, telling me it was disconnecting from the engine.

Parts or puters?

There is a PRV that overshoots and will prevent fluid flow below ~1500rpm. If above 1800rpm the trans acts and shifts normally, then this is most likely the problem. It is well known fault with the 98-02 trans. The fluid doesn't flow through the cooler, the trans overheats and usually overheats the TC first, cooks the ATF which then breaks down and no longer allows proper protection/lubrication to the trans and it usually eats a clutch pack which then clogs the sump filter, and you end up with one dead trans.

It's a simple enough fix Sonnax sells a revised valve to fix the problem, however any work on the trans outside of the shift solenoids and diff seals requires trans removal and dis-assembly, it sucks.
