Default power window wont roll up all the way

My back driver's side window has never been able to roll up all the way. I've had somebody try to roll it up while I tried to force the window up, but it will not not roll up completely. There is like a 1/4 inch gap where it won't roll up. It really sucks since I live in Oregon, and well...its always rains here. Any thoughts on where to start?

take the trim panel off and make sure the window channel seal isn't bunching up somewhere making the glass stop short of the top

yeah, with window troubles one of the first steps is always to pull the panel and see if anything is damaged or out of place. (before that you could try lubing the rubber runs/grooves. but to really do that properly, the panel needs to come off...)

i know from experience some of the later model Accord coupes have poorly designed regulator rivets that are prone to stripping out. as a result they may roll down fine but **** slightly on the way up and will stop before closing completely. you may have a similar issue with your '91 (assuming from your sig.). just something to look for while you're in there.

Thanks, I will definitely start out with checking the regulator.

Yea my front passenger side window ***** out and rolls up mroe than it should. It probably wouldn't hurt to replace the channel and the regulator on that side too.

So I took the panel off, and took the window channel out and sprayed it down with a silicon lubricant. I put the channels back in, made sure the window was on track(first time didnt do that and the gap was larger). Still no luck. There is still like a 1/4" of an inch gap that it leave at the top. It makes kind of a grinding noise when it rolls up, also, the window can wiggle to the left or the right. That doesn't seem normal. Its almost like something is pressing up against the window making it so the window can roll up all the way. When the window was off the regulator, I could pull it all the way up to that spot where it is sticking and then muscle it up the rest of the way, but it doesnt seem like the motor can handle that much. And no matter how much I try to muscle it up while somebody else rolls the window up, it won't seal all the way. Any suggestions? Think its the regulator?

This really sucks because it rains constantly here in Oregon.

Does the motor slow down noticably as the window approaches the top of the door? Or, does the window go up at a normal pace and stop suddenly when it gets 1/4" from the top?

yea that is happening too, although the motor just seems like it is working hard the whole way up. I didnt think it was the motor since I cant even muscle it up all the way. wouldnt that be the regulator, since isnt that the part that makes the window go up and down proper?

The dynamics of a power window make internet diagnostics impossible. I'd have to see the window operate with the door panel off so I could check things out to determine the cause.

It's sounding like the regulator is worn out and the run channel is old and deformed. Again, internet diagnostics...

I'm fairly certain that I have a bent regulator. I'm going to take it out on my next day off and check it out.

I cannot find anywhere that sells window channels for my model. Kind of sucks if that ends up being the culprit. I mean really though. It can only be those 2 things though. I know it could be the motor, but the motor comes along with the regulator as a package, so I look at those as one and the same.

I took the regulator and motor out today and that plastic piece on the top of the regulator had snapped off. Its time for a new regulator, but it still seems like the window has a lot of lag going up. I took it off the regulator and it still lagged. I may need new channels as well. This is ending up being alot more expensive then I thought...

The window guide clip popped out at some point too. I didnt know what it was at first, but I've looked at the rear window diagram. The only thing is that it doesnt say where it goes...

unless they are badly worn or damaged, liberal lubrication of the channels [runs] should be all you need to get them back in shape.

I did that and they are fine now, but the part of the channel that seals the window at the top has warped. it is sticking out further than it should and this is why the window won't roll up all the way without some help from me pushing it up

Went down to a "pick a part", found the exact year make and model of mine with power windows. Took a bit to get the 2 bolts off the regulator because the window was mostly rolled up all the way. But I walked out with a window channel, motor and regulator, all in sound shape for $25!

I'm glad that I didn't pay for new parts, because I put the ones I got in and the same thing is happening! I was able to pull the window up all the way though so it will seal out the rain. Its making that same grinding sound that it was before when it rolls up. Its 100% on track with the window channel. I caked the silicone lube all up in the new channels. Its like the metal guides that the channel sits in (on the right side) are off and pushing the window into the door slightly enough to make trouble with rolling up the window all the way...

When I roll up the window I can see it pushing in on the right side. I don't think that is fixable without buying a door....

question.

Click the image to open in full size.

#9 is not in place. Where does it go exactly? It fell off when I was taking off the assembly the first time.

And the part I was talking about being bent? Thats the only thing I can think of that would be causing my window to not roll up. It would be that part 6/13.

What events led to the symptom? Was this a sudden/instant symptom or did this take a while to slowly develop? Did someone kick the door? etc...

It was like that when I bought it. Apparently I can adjust the metal track by loosening the bolts. I'm gonna give that a try too, but honestly, I'm just going to save that for the summertime. I'm happy that the rain cannot get in at least.

I have this same issue where the right rear window rolls up and at about 2/3 closed bogs down. Then it won't go the last 1/4 inch. I have replaced both the regulator with aftermarket part and replaced the channel with OEM. I too had a broken wheel on the original regulator and think it was caused by the current issue. I've read other posts about this issue but not yet heard of a fix.

Any ideas?

I have this same issue as well with the right rear door. I bought this door and it rolls down fine but rolls up very slowly and stops at about 9/10th's of the way. I replaced it with a new motor and regulator but it still won't go up right. Its rolls up exactly the same as before, really slowly.
I looked if it was off its runner and made sure it was on it, then I sprayed lubricant in the runner and looked for obstructions and found non.

Its annoying that I spent $80 on this door only for it to mess up like this. I'm going to talk to the guy that sold it to me if he can give me some of my money back.

But can someone help me on this?

I have had 3 CB7's ALL with power windows.

When I saw any improper behavior from my windows I went down this list:

IS THE GLASS CLEAN? It sounds stupid, obvious, and even condescending but I have found this clears up a lot of the weather strip folding/tucking/wedging issues.

ARE THE TRACKS CLEAN/LUBED? Back roads travel and "sunday driving" with the windows down is fun and great but It's also a good way to let dirt/dust build up on the exposed guides/tracks. CLEAN THEM OUT WITH COMPRESSED AIR.
If you don't have access to an air compressor with one of these:
http://www.harborfreight.com/media/c...mage_19719.jpg

a compressed air computer keyboard duster works as well. Follow this up with
SILICONE SPRAY LUBE. I use liquid wrench but many brands are out there and they
all do about the same job.

STILL HAVING TROUBLE? Time to pop that panel!

LOOK AT MECHANICAL CAUSES:

Does the motor run? if so is it running right?
I've had these doors and windows out of a few of these and I've only seen two motors go bad. One was burned out because the guy tried running it up/down while there was a rock jammed in the guide. The other was a brand new $149.00 motor burned out because when it was installed the guy ran it (to see if it worked) while it wasn't hooked up to the window and he spun the brushes in the stator. (it worked for about 10 seconds)

Ok so, it's not the motor?

I have seen on three occasions the plastic (WHY GO WITH PLASTIC HERE HONDA, WHY?) drive gear skip a tooth on the regulator and cause the amount of travel reduced by just a fraction (JUST ENOUGH TO KEEP THE WINDOW OPEN)

Referring to the illo in qucktsers post #'s 5 and 8 are often prone to getting bent and deformed at the bottom (more common on the front door though) and I have seen SO many times #22 (the two 10mm bolts on RR doors/nuts on FR doors) simply work loose and lead to this:
http://ts2.mm.bing.net/th?id=H.47276...75713&pid=15.1

If after opening up the door and seeing how simple things are the window still doesn't work
there's the rubber seal to consider these are prone to warping, dry rot, tearing, folding, and all kinds of various deformation. if the window travels freely until a certain point this could be a safe bet for your culprit. have a friend work the window and observe from the outside and see if the window is sitting inside the top edge or is it riding out? generally you can push/pull on the rubber to work the window up and into position (if the car sat in storage or out in the elements with the window down a little this rubber tends to mold it's self more relaxed positions over time and the slightest deformity can cause unpleasant operation if you can't get the rubber seals to co-operate then replacing them may be necessary.

However if after all that you can't get it to work there's always: tree fall national park

So what was the cause of the window not working? I've been wondering, haven't seen an update to your other thread in some time.

I'm having the same problem with my passenger side window on my 99 Honda accord coupe. I pressed the button to roll the window down and then all the sudden the window just dropped... I haven't yet checked the regulator or run channel... I was wondering if anyone could think of anything or suggest any ideas before I took it apart. Also now my driver window won't go all the way up. It will go down but not up all the way so I have to put it up as far as it can go by itself and then use my hands and the button to put it up the rest of the way. Anyone know what could be wrong with that one?
