car wont start when i turn the ignition
95 Civic Si with obd1 jdm b16a swap
car ran perfectly fine last time i took it out for a cruise. i havent drove the car in a couple weeks so i figured i would take it out for a cruise. put the key in the ignition and turned it and nothing happened. all the dash lights work and radio powers on. i tried jumping it anyways and it did not get it started. any ideas on what i need to test?

You only need a basic digital multimeter for car work. I see one often on sale at Harbor Freight Tools for $3. It would do just fine.

Re: car wont start when i turn the ignition
i agree with RonJ that it sounds like your battery. if you take it to an auto store and they fully charge it that might make it run but if the battery can no longer hold a load its no good. use the meter to test that your battery is at 12.6 V fully charged without you turning the ignition to start it. i believe if you use the meter to check the voltage while someone turns on the car you can see the drop in voltage on the motor because youre putting a load on it. if it drops more than .6 volts your battery is going bad so it its in the low 11.0 range thats probably why youre having a had time turning your car on. lights and radio dont put on as much of a load as trying to start your motor so just because its on doesnt mean that the battery is fine. ive used a VAT40 to do this many times but not alot of people have VAT40's since they are about 400 bucks..
so try it and let me know what happens but definitely listen to RONJ he knows what he's talking about

Could be the starter. Clean the wire connected to the starter (13 mm nut) and clean the wire to the solenoid. Then have somebody tap on the starter with a broom handle while you turn the key. It might kick in a little. If so it's the brushes in the starter

Re: car wont start when i turn the ignition
Had this happen to me with my 1992 Civic Si one time. Went to the store and everything worked perfectly fine. Came out the store and stuck my key in the ignition and everything lighted up on the dash fine. Turned the key and nothing, push started just fin though.
Long story short, look on you clutch pedal and see if the little plastic nipple broke apart. This is the piece that push the button to let your computer know you have the clutch push down to start the car. With out that rubber nipple you have a hole and no way for anything to let the car know the clutch is pushed in.

Re: car wont start when i turn the ignition
i went and bought a multimeter and I am not getting any readout on my car battery. i tested the multimeter on a AA battery and got the proper 1.27v by turning the dial to 2 DCV. i could also not be using the multimeter correctly either as this is the first time ever using one. i turned the dial to 20 DCV to test the car battery and never got a readout other than 0.00.
when i turn my ignition nothing happens but everything lights up and my radio powers on. also, i do not hear my fuel pump. there is no cranking of the engine.
this is the multimeter i bought

Re: car wont start when i turn the ignition
Your battery is clearly bad. The 20 DCV setting was the correct one to use. You would touch the red (+) meter probe to the (+) battery post and the black (-) meter probe to the (-) battery post.

Make sure all your connections are tight!!!!
Similar issue just happened to me, starter cables and tranny ground were loose Everything else was good, check all connections

could be the battery but if he jumped it from another battery it should have started... have you checked your fuses?? have u checked for spark or fuel? or does it not turn over at all? does it just click when u hit the key? it could be a ground check and clean ur grounds on the motor. there is one on the transmission one on the valve cover and the ecu ground is on the T-stat housing. let us know what u come up with. from sitting the grounds could have corroded and its not grounded good enough to start

In ON(II), does the fuel pump prime? Does the CEL turn on and then off after 2 seconds?
Do the headlights and hazard lights work?
