crisp, clear base that bumps!!!
Subwoofer shopping for my EG. I was thinking about either a Type-R or a w6 / w7. I wanna stay at 10" because of my lack of space in the hatch (especially with my strut bar). So I want a sub that will provide really clear, clean bass, but will thump hard if i crank it up. I'm not stuck on the Type-R or w6, and want some suggestions. A good suggestion for an amp combo would be nice too, but I have a few that I was already thinking of using. So suggest away, thx!

Around the same price as a Type-R or a w6... I guess 200-350, give or take, for the sub alone. Plus whatever the amp I want would cost

Re: crisp, clear base that bumps!!!
always good to do the big 3 and get a better upfront battery.
as far a subs, like i said before u have tons of options..it all depends on power now
Since you have a hatch, u don't need much power to get loud and sound clean
i'd go for 2 lower wattage 8's or 10's
something in the 300-400w range.

When it comes to lower powered systems, i tend to recommend 2 subs over 1 for the fact that you'll get more cone area and motor force
if u just want 1 sub, check these out

I've heard good things about the Phoenix Gold... which of the DC/Phoenix Gold would you recommend, and should I go 10" or 12"?

Re: crisp, clear base that bumps!!!
honestly for a low power system it depends more on exactly what you are looking for out of a woffer and how much trunk space you would like to save, how much you are looking to spend total for a system and if you are willing to do electrical upgrades to the car.
With all of that my suggestion would be a id max 10 which is on the same level as the w7. This woofer runs really well off of 500-750 rms and can be ran in small boxes as well as ported. It can be found for around 275+. I have eather herd or ran most of the woofers in this thread and this is by far my fav so far but thats a personal preference.

Re: crisp, clear base that bumps!!!
Thanks for the input. I'm definitely looking to do the 'big 3' upgrades for sure. I'm just looking for something that hits the lows really well with really clear distortion-free bass. I wanna be able to turn it up a little and bump if I want to as well. I'll look up that ID Max 10 too. Thanks!

Re: crisp, clear base that bumps!!!
best setup ever for a hatchback(my opinion):
jl 8wo in sealed box
mb quart reference components in the doors w/ small dynamat buildup
alpine cda-9835
alpine 50x4
8 gauge power and ground
no electrical upgrades
i miss it
good CLEAN sound.

Re: crisp, clear base that bumps!!!
you know what bumps that they dont sell anymore? JL8w6's 2 of those in a ported box will blow you away. And the box is pretty damn small. I picked some of these up years ago and its been going from car to car as I change cars. In a properly tuned box they sound like a set of 10's
Maybe you can find a used set on ebay?
I have a set of 8w7's that I have yet to put in a box. So I can't comment on those. But to honest they look more like 10's then 8's. They will also take up WAY more room then a 8w6.

Re: crisp, clear base that bumps!!!
well since there was a post of he was looking for a sub with a budget of 350 and was looking for something like a W7 this woofer is perfect, and to compare it to the other woofers this has a different idea in mind that the DC or Sundown woofers. I know i might be new to this forum but i am not new to stereos. If you want i can call Jake the owner of sundown and ask him what he thinks about ID max's and you can take his opinion. I was just trying to give the OP another option on a quality woofer that is what he was looking for. So bring on the hate since i dont ride the forum boners.

Re: crisp, clear base that bumps!!!
i second the Arc Audio 10, but also recommend an Ultra LV-10 if you have a dealer locally. i recently installed one in a customers 2009 VW GTi and he was blown away by it's performance. then again...it was running on an Arc Audio KS300.2 amp. he had 2 type-r 10's in his bmw 540i and said this one 10" was by far a better investment
