Transmission Noise 5 Speed
1999 Civic EX 5 Speed 210k miles: So here are the symptoms my trans started having. With the car at rest and the clutch pedal up, there's no noise. With the car at rest with the clutch pedal down, there's no noise. When the car is at speed and I lift off the gas, the trans sounds like an old Chevy Muncie M22. It's like a whining gear sound. Does it in all gears, it's not real loud but it's there. I changed the input shaft bearing in the trans about 50k ago (with new clutch & TO bearing). I know what an ISB sounds like when bad. No shifting issue yet. Fluid level is OK with no leaks. Does this sound like an output bearing? How long can I drive it like this? Thanks in advance for any input.

Re: Transmission Noise 5 Speed
It could be the input shaft bearing again if the gears weren't disassembled and the main and counter shaft oil ports weren't fully cleaned. It could also be one of the counter shaft case bearings. Mine with 244k at the time ended up being the counter shaft c clip bearing. You'll just need to inspect them.

Re: Transmission Noise 5 Speed
Thanks for the reply Chris. When I repaired the trans, I disassembled and cleaned all the parts in a wash tank. I inspected/replaced all the components per the Honda manual. The ISB was the issue at that time. All the other bearings were fine but they do have 210k on them now.
