Clutch replacement
Hi everyone,
I have a manual '04 gen7 Civic LX sedan. I was planning on doing a clutch replacement today, and about half way through removing what I need to get access to the tranny, I noticed that the sub frame is pretty darn close to the bell housing. I did see a vid of another individual changing the clutch on his 03 coupe without removing the subframe, but I'm really not sure how that car compares to mine.
Without going any further, I was hoping that someone else who has done this before can answer this: Is it possible to replace the clutch without dropping the sub frame on my car?
Many thanks..

I've never done it without removing the subframe.
There's barely enough room to drop the trans even with the subframe removed; I have no idea how you'd do it otherwise.

Re: Clutch replacement
The problem is I don't have an engine hoist so I don't have the proper equipment to remove the subframe and keep the engine suspended.
I called a couple of dealerships earlier today and asked what they would charge to replace the clutch. When I told them I already have the parts, both of them basically ignored me and said parts + labor = roughly $1100.
I don't know if it's possible to do without removing the subframe, but I think I have to atleast try... When I was under the car it looked like it might be possible to do if I can lower the tranny even a little, just not very likely. I can't afford to have the dealership do it otherwise, plus I know there's probably gonna be additional costs for a job that big, such as re-alignment.

Re: Clutch replacement
Why go to the dealership if you've already got all the parts? Just take them to an indie mechanic and have them do the work for you if you don't have the equipment yourself.

Re: Clutch replacement
you dont need an engine hoist, i just did my clutch, i just held the motor up with a block of wood and a jack, and got another jack just to lower the tranny. take out the subframe, you should be able to do it without a hoist. just a couple of jacks and some wood. youll be fine
