My crazy Throttle Body Shave! D.I.Y
**I am not responsible if you attempt this and screw it up
As we all know... I'm a very crazy individual ready to attempt any and all DIYs... today I finally did something I have been wanting to do for awhile. It is winter here in WI and the snow has fallen so my beloved Ivy is sleeping in the garage...
I hat the look of the OEM throttle body since I have no sensors on it. But I don't want to drop almost $500 on a hybrid racing throttle body for the clean look plus be able to keep cruise control. Plus I already had my stock throttle body bored from maxbore.com So!!!
This is what I'm starting with:
As you can see it has the "towers" as I call them for the sensors.. I am not using any sensors so lets begin to modify and clean our throttle body!!
First Take off the throttle body by removing the cruise cables (12mm) and the throttle body bolts (x4 of 12mm)
Here is my throttle body ready to be torn apart. In this DIY we are going to eliminate the coolant lines on the IACV and the towers
With a marker I mark all of my cut lines
Now I'm going to instal a fresh cut wheel because this is important
Begin cutting off all of the pieces you don't want/need
Now using this bit I start to clean up the cuts
I then decided I also wanted to eliminate another front part so I shaved that off too and rounded some more edges.
I'm not done yet I'm going to go nuts... I decided just now I'm going to visit a friend and see if he can weld in the air lines where the map sensor went and I'll shave off the round parts too!!

Now lets remove coolant lines!~!
First pull out the tubs on the throttle body and the IACV... Mine didn't want to come out nicely so I drilled those bitches out~!!
Now using a tap I'm going to thread the housing
now we have threads!
Insert your plug!
Do the same to the IACV
Now your throttle body is looking clean!!
I'm not finished but I've gotta go to work! So I'm going to sand it down, paint it, and weld it.. but heres a rough look at the finished product!
From this:
To This!!
Got some more progress done on my throttle body!!
I bought some new grinding tools
So I started by pulling out the rubber plugs I had
Then started cutting the circles off
and here is my almost finished product!!

Re: My crazy Throttle Body Shave! D.I.Y
Now I filled the holes for the two sensors with JB weld and let it sit over night
I then spent more time cutting, trimming, shaving, straightening, and sanding and made it look its best. I then prepped it for paint.
I however won't be painted for awhile. I'm going to paint the three pieces together when I get a chance. (Supercharger neck, manifold and throttle body)
Ok so today I finally finished the throttle body... not 100% sure I like it so that means I'll do it again later. I can still see some sanding marks and etc and that is a no go but anyways!
I used duplicolor cast coat aluminum paint and self etching primer
I thank put down some plastic and made a makeshift paint stand lol I hate winter time~
So I started laying down my primer!
and kept going till it was even and filled
Then I started misting on the paint!
Finished it and let it dry and then mocked it up! I didn't put anything like the sensors or cable back on because I am pulling off my supercharger soon so I can fill and paint the neck and manifold to match!

I also shaved my supercharger neck
Ok so I'm almost done with the supercharger... I took to the tape off this morning and got this
So then I sanded a little more and prepped it for paint!
Now for some primer!
and some paint! BAM I'm happy with the final result

Re: My crazy Throttle Body Shave! D.I.Y
So I was never officially happy with how the supercharger neck turned out... I felt like it could be better and that has been holding me back from putting my supercharger together... so today I decided to redo it!
Here is what I had:
But I could still see uneveness where the nipples where shaved down and it didn't look good to me... so i spent some time sanding and filing and made it super smooth and flush
Then masked it up again and primed it
and then painted it!
It is not fully dried yet so I can't touch it to look but from what I can see its SOOO much better!
Then I was way to excited to wait. The supercharger is officially back together.
I know I spent A LOT of time making my own custom throttle body but the new Hybrid Racing will be here within a couple of weeks. Its so new it isn't even on their website yet... But just to see how it looks I put the setup back together.
I haven't and wont instal it on the car yet because I'm pulling the trans out and redoing the wiring harness and installing the new coolant hoses.
Ok on to photos:
