Re: lsvtec boost os regular ls all motor?
start by checking the healthiness of the motor first
Compression Test
Leak down test
General top to bottom look.
Then ask ur self what u want to use the car for? DD, TT, Autox, Drag?

well if you have the money i'd definitely go for a vtec head if you decide to go all motor. with the turbo its up to you which head to use. you can make a good turbo build with the ls too, but it all comes down to what you want out of your car and how much you have to spend.

Plus what are your whp goals? What kinda of budget do you have?
I can tel you from expierience that an ls/vtec boosted on a mild build scale with NEW parts and done right is going to run you 5-8 grand.
I spent about 2-3 grand just in building the engine + cleaning it inside and out. Turbo kit w/injectors 3 grand. EMS - 600 ( can be found less, but I bought brand new). Then to swap this engine in.. turbo kit installed + tune. ~2 k I am still not including some misc stuff i have bought which is around 1 k.
If you are mechanically inclined, you can cut this budget by 1/2. Since most of this is labor cost. Also you can find turbo kits around here or local area that are well maintained for 1/2 or 1/3 less than they orginally bought it for.
I strongly believe in do it right the first time.. I don't have to worry about if the previous owners did something, but it also comes with a price. Only concern I have to deal with is if the shop did their work correctly + tune.. which if it is a legit shop, you will be fine.

im mechanically inclined i used to have an accord i threw a rod i tore it apart and had the block bored out and put in oversized pistond and rebuilt the head. but my budget is around 8 grand over the next year 4 every 6 months and the motor is extremely healthy

Re: lsvtec boost os regular ls all motor?
I'd prefer boost, but do it right the first time and don't cut corners. I'm 5 years in on my LS-Vtec/Turbo build and the only recent repair I had to make was to my altenator belt. If your Whp goals are high and you plan on putting in work with it (hopefully on the track) then i'd strive for boost...PROPERLY DONE....boost.
And trust me you'll do a NA/LS-Vtec and love it until someone in a 300-400whp LS/Vtec Turbo build rips by you.

Why LSVtec on boost or LS all motor?
If you were on a budget id say boost the LS, but with EIGHT GRAND id say drop a K series you'll be happier boosted or NA

Re: lsvtec boost os regular ls all motor?
8 Grands JUST to afford and get the motor in and running, it's still gonna put down punk *** numbers, about 170-160whp about 140-150lb ft torque, after that 8 grand there is no more money to do anything else to that waste of money *** K..
However, 8 Grand into B Seiries, LSVtec to be exact can lead to anywhere from 250-400whp or even more. I'm 520whp on a fully built bottom, head and Boost and and I didn't spend nothing over 5.....and I DEVOUR K's whenever the oppurtunity presents itself.
8K or not...Do a Turbo B Series or hell a Turbo H and you'll see outstanding results.

Re: lsvtec boost os regular ls all motor?
GSR TRANNY, that longer gear/longer spool theory is bullshit. I had a gsr tranny on my turbo'd LS and i liked it way better than the LS..gears arent that much different with normal daily driving, but racing wise, you'll like the GSR better
