Bottom line you should be okay running 10w30 or 20w50 when unsing high quality oil and changing it regularly. I wouldnt run anything for 3k miles in our cars.

Rotella T-5 10w30 synthetic. Works great and the added zinc does wonder for wear protection on all internally lubricated parts plus it's cheap only 16 bucks a gallon at Walmart

re: What engine oils are people preferring in their turbo engines? 2010-present
I changed over to Royal Purple about a month ago and about 2-3 days later I spun #4 rod bearing! I totally blame that ****! I turned crank and installed new bearings and went back to Valvoline 10w30 with no issues. I have ran Valvoline for like 10 years no issues on all my cars....N/A and turbo! Never gonna even think about trying something different in the future...EVER! lol. I call that purple crap Royal Pain in the ***! haha.
So i went home and added more oil, but it was too late, it started knocking bad and spun 2 of my bearings. I replaced the long block with another b16a and only used castrol 5w-30 with zero issues and no oil burning. I wanted to more displacement so instead of stroking my b16a I sold it and bought a gsr b18c long block. And i'm still using castrol 5w-30. I beat on my car on the weekeneds and the oil level stays the same.
I'll NEVER USE royal purple in my life again. I cant believe people waste their money on synthetic oils. Especially Mobil 1 (not comparing it to RP) which I read on hear almost everyone uses it. Regular oil does a great job.

ive been using 10w30 for the past few months and ive changed my oil after every event ...as well with the plugs....
but on str8 drag cars you cna use 20w50 aswell , but if driven on the street and track i say keep it 10w30

The snake oils like purple never lived up to claims for me. Best thing is
high zinc oils for non cated cars and vice versa for cars with cats.
Lots of zinc will clog a cat in no time.

Yeah not at all a fan of the royal purp. Tends to start leaks from seals that never leaked and definatly likes to burn off

Heh, I was considering switching to royal purple at the beggining of the summer but didnt just mainly to due with how much they want for it. I definetly wont be touching it now, it only takes a few horror stories on here for me not to try something.

Royal purple makes power because it is comparitively lighter than the other OTS ****. THat's why it spins bearings and leaks and burnsd. Only use high mileage, diesel or racing oils, regular oil has almost no anti-wear additives to save your catalyctic convertor. **** your cat, save youre motor. Rotella T 5w40 syn.

whoa. In the past i had an issue with synthetic 5w30. I started using mobil 1 5w30 in my b16 and after 3000 miles my engine would start to burn oil. After that I realized I would burn more and more oil. Right now I running a d15b turbo setup and using castrol 5w30. Is that too thin for turbo? What weight should I be using? Also I want an oil with lots of zinc. What auto part store brand sells this? I work at autozone and nothing here has zinc.
